Healy Keen on Rangers Move Monday, 21st Jun 2010 09:07
Former Town loanee David Healy says he would be interested in joining SPL champions Rangers, if reports claiming the Glasgow giants are considering a move for him prove to be correct. Healy spent the second half of the season on loan at Town from Sunderland, scoring one goal in five starts and seven sub appearances, before a knee injury put him out of action.
Healy, who is firmly out of Steve Bruce’s plans at the Stadium of Light, said: “I am contracted to Sunderland, so talking about leaving is not the proper thing to do.
"But if Rangers came knocking I would certainly not be saying no. I have been linked with going to Rangers for four or five years now.
"It has been well documented that I grew up supporting Rangers and my dad is a big Rangers fan, but that does not mean I am ever going to end up playing there.
"I am keen to get back to Sunderland for pre-season training, get fit and see what happens."
Town boss Roy Keane appears less interested in making Healy’s move to Portman Road a permanent switch than securing Daryl Murphy’s signature, although the Waterford-born frontman is strongly tipped to be joining Celtic.
Meanwhile, Town owner and chairman Marcus Evans’s unofficial corporate hospitality at the World Cup in South Africa is reported to be under investigation by FIFA, who are keen to know how their match tickets were obtained.

I hope rangers do want him as he's not good enough. I am a bit at a loss to explain how keane wanted him when he gave him very little chance at sunderland. I still dont think our strikers are the reason we scored so few goals last season, I think its something more complicated than that. More fundamental, more about the coaching, management, confidence and the way the team is set up. Walters, Pablo, Stead, Priskin et al are all more than capable of scoring 10-15 goals each and garvan, edwards, martin should have been chipping in with 5-7 goals each...which is what you need to go up, not getting one player scoring 20 goals

agree with monkey blue and consistancy give any of the striker a fair chance to build up a partnership upfront and they will score - how many different combination did we have last season ?

No problem with that! A poor showing at PR. Not require - particularly for what I am sure will be a large salary.

Monkeyblue, '' Pablo more than capable of scoring 10-15 goals a season'' don't make me laugh, he's only ever hit more than 11 goals in 1 season and that year he hit 7 pens. Why do people think he's so good? He never has been good enough.

We could always go for Wayne Rooney, given his recent form, he might fancy a move to the Championship.

Spot on comment Skip73! Pablo Counago was never a good striker. I just don't know what is this charm he has that makes so many people like him?! For me he is an average striker and he is not for us if we are to aim promotion. The same for Priskin. Only Stead maight still be OK for covering our two first team strikers. As of Healy - I admit before coming to PR I was a big fan of his but he was simply out of form... and I don't believe he will ever get into shape... I would be very surprised if Rangers go for him.

When one trawls through our current list of strikers, it makes depressing reading indeed. Neither Murphy not Healy make it any better. Seems like we are putting all our eggs in a Wickham basket next year.

monkeyblue spot on ,its goals from midfield we are lacking not just the mythical 20 goal striker that no teams had last season ,the majority of top scorers in the league were midfielders Whitttingham,Nolan,Ambrose,Adam,Cleverly . The whole England situation is reminding me of our season with the heavy handed my way or the highway attitude between management and players ,not everybody is the same and cannot be treated the same ,gelling a team and getting the best out of individuals makes a good manager not barking out orders . As for Healy hasnt been upto it for about 5 years and if this story is true shows how far Scottish football has really dropped
