Town Back in for Palace Skipper Derry
Town Back in for Palace Skipper Derry

Town are being linked with a renewed move for Crystal Palace skipper Shaun Derry. TWTD first broke the news of the Blues’ interest in the out-of-contract 32-year-old a month ago, but it had appeared that the ex-Sheffield United and Leeds man had instead opted for a reunion with former boss Neil Warnock at QPR.

However, reports in London now claim that Town are set to grab Derry’s signature with the Blues said to have alerted Rangers of their intentions in order to prevent agents from playing one club off against the other with regard to wages.

One factor which reportedly could scupper Derry’s move to Loftus Road is Warnock’s unwillingness to guarantee the holding midfielder a place in his side, although whether Town would offer such assurances seems unlikely.

Derry, 6ft tall, started his career with hometown club Notts County before moving on to Sheffield United for £700,000 in January 1998. Two years later, a £300,000 deal took him to Portsmouth, then in 2002 he joined Palace for a first spell for £400,000.

Having been on loan at Nottingham Forest during the Eagles’ 2004/05 Premier League campaign, Derry eventually signed for Leeds for £250,000 late in that season.

In November 2008, he moved back to Palace on loan, making the switch a permanent one the following January for an undisclosed fee.

Derry came close to joining the Blues on loan in November 2004 during Joe Royle’s time as Town manager, but Palace preferred to do a permanent deal with Leeds.

Oh great - another has been. If we manage to beat away the competition of QPR we will see him for maybe the first 6 or 7 games before Keane decides he is not our type of player....

Poor signing if true, we lack creativity in central midfield. We need someone who can pass the ball, run with the ball. Leadbitter is suited to the holding role and norris is no slouch in terms of winning the ball.

He claimed in Aug 2009 he was about to sign players with the right character who knew the chanmpionship....Priskin, leadbitter, Edwards came in

The in May he claims we lack the right characters and needed streetwise players who knew the championship....| suspect he doesn't know whats needed, i suspect keane is an idiot

I actually looked up this player online. He is known as the "Mole" at Leeds for allegedly tipping off the Crystal Palace management to the Leeds team when the two sides played each other. Sounds like a sneaky little sod to me. Anyway, our idiotic "messiah" of ours needs to leave this one well alone !!!!

Shaun Derry I thought being linked with him once was a joke I take it he's Irish, if anyone wants to pay near on £30 a game to watch him then they're beyond me.

I think we should sign that German striker, Uwe Seeler. He seems able to get around very quickly to every ground at the World Cup and make lots of noise and we need shaking up a bit.

Can't get to that many games unfortunately, but too be honest leadbitter always looked by far and away our most assured player on the ball. If we can get someone in to do the dirty work so that he can get the ball in more dangerous areas than I'm all for it and in all honesty he doesn't need to be the prettiest of players!

.....oh and could we part exchange Martin for Klose!?...... I mean they could give us 500k as well!!!

He's poor - so poor he should play for North Korea...

We need an out of favour striker, with a proven scoring record, who wants one last chance of glory. Step forward Michael Owen!
