Arsenal Linked With Wickham Move
Arsenal Linked With Wickham Move
Thursday, 15th Jul 2010 12:23

Arsenal are reported to be ready to fight north London rivals Spurs for Town striker Connor Wickham’s signature. Tottenham are understood to have made bids of £5 million and £8 million for the England U17 international this summer.

News of Arsenal’s interest in Wickham, who signed a two-year deal with the Blues earlier in the year, comes as little surprise with the Gunners having been amongst a host of Premier League clubs keeping an eye on the 17-year-old’s progress since his time as an academy schoolboy.

Town have repeatedly said that they want to hold on to their prize asset, while the player himself has said he is happy at Portman Road.

Take the cash. Take the cash. He's not worth anything like that sort of money

If Keane can waste £5m as easily as he did last season he's perfectly capable of wasting £8m. Keep Connor & let him develop under our next manager

Like others I cannot believe we have been offered £8m for Conor... I don't want to see him go, but if the £8m IS TRUE, then it is very tempting indeed. I hope he stays, has a stormer for us next year and goes for at least double that when he eventually does move on!
As far as the club debt is concerned, as I understand it it was reported by the Daily Mail as £50m... BUT, remember that £35m of that is the loan that ME bought out for £6m, which can only be recalled by ME if we get promoted to the Premiership. As far as operating profits/loss go, we are reportedly running at a £5m annual loss, which if you consider that since ME took over the wage bill has risen from £5m to £14m, isn't that bad... this was the reason ME?Clegg were saying we had to reduce wage bill before buying... glad they did a u-turn on that one!

can you all grow up, we would never get 10 million for him let alone 8. a young promising player of that standard usually gets around the 5 mark. look at fabian delph who went from leeds to villa they got around 6 million for him and his a much better player than wickham. stop dreaming and wake up.

this is why english football is failing at the mo. picture the scene. conner signs for arsenal. is then buried in arsenal reseves and forgotten about. plays one or two carling cup games and is then shunted out on loan to league one after a season or two. they let him go casue they have a new teenage prodigy from mexico, conner has to re-build and england have lost a potentail striker becasu he is then deemed "too old and plays in a league thats not the premier" this is happing way to much in the prem (fabian delph, and ages ago bobby zamora)and needs to be stamped out

Wicham is a STAR for the future...we want him to be our STAR at Ipswich Town...build around him Mr Keane and restore us to The Prem. Foget your Irish/Sunderland past, and open up your horizons...us supporters are fed up with your Sunderland/Irish past, get real or get out...Wickham and Rhoades would have a dream parternship for the future...you let that go for some really poor signings. You have to now earn 'your corn' to reach the levels of Ramsey and Robson at 'our football club'

We keep hearing Keane say he wants him to stay but is it not time our club owner put an end to the speculation ? We know he is primarily a successful business man and wants to make a profit from his investment in the club but surely it is better to keep players of quality to improve the status of the club ( by building a team for promotion ) not selling the better players and replacing them with has beens or never weres !!!!
