QPR Make Walters Bid Claim Monday, 19th Jul 2010 23:25
Town are reported to have turned down a £2.5 million offer for Jon Walters from fellow Championship side QPR. Walters missed the weekend trip to PSV and last Tuesday’s club barbecue at Glemham Hall with a virus.
The Blues skipper was linked with a move to Stoke City in May, the Potters having been mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old back in 2008.
In June, manager Roy Keane revealed that the Blues had received offers for some of what he considered the club's "most important players”, who were likely to have been Walters and star youngster Connor Wickham.

Mmmm, mixed feelings on this one. In his first season, Jonno was outstanding and a real revelation. But since then he has tailed off and whether that is fatigue from being an ever-present, or because he is often played out of position, or maybe he has lost interest - I dunno. And this is NOT Keano's fault - he was already starting to look jaded under Jim, so it is unlikely to be a manager issue. I would be tempted to take the money, but as we are lightweight up front anyway, we should probably hold fire and see if anyone new comes in and frees Jonno up for either an attacking midfield role or a transfer out.

If a Premiership club offered the money I wouldn't stand in his way. But to sell to a club where he could come back and probably score against us, would not be good business. Whether you like him or not, there was no getting away from the fact that he was one of our most regular players and we have noone to replace him.

Agree with a lot of the comments on here over JW. He has had a couple of poor seasons compared to his early years at Town and this is not a RK thing as he was poor the last season under JM. £2.5M is a good offer for him but like many others on here not convinced that RK can buy a good player if given this money to replace him. The 1 thing that you always get from JW is 100% effort and commitment which is more than can be said for alot of the squad last year. Would be shame to lose him especially if there is no replacement deal lined up that IMPROVES the team.

I am just suspicious if this is a plan masterminded by my boyfriend to get me to become a QPR supporter.... IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

What the hell has happened to our club in the space of a year?..we've gone from being promotion favourites to a club selling/giving away players left, right and centre...what a mess....we are going to struggle this season.

Very few players in all the divisions have his work rate - he leads from the front and will hopefully be an important player next season. He was clearly out of sorts a lot of last season and was clearly knackered. A lot of the blame there has to go to keane (sorry Dobbie) as he would never sub him or give him a game to rest. Every fan could see it (that he was exhausted). However, I assume that he "trained well" or something like that.

Better to sell Connor for £10M and buy a very good centre forward who can feed off Jon and Owen. Jon struggled last season but then so did whole team. He needs stability like the rest of them and not a different format and playing style each 45 minutes! Keep hold of Jon and Owen as they work well together providing others do not try and hog the ball for too long.

Walters rated at 2.5 million Garvan rated at 100k (initially) If that is not a big enough put down to some of the over inflated egos on here then i dont know what is :-)

Needs to show some form this season, looked lost in too many games last year - but then didn't the complete squad?

Stop those stupid long diagonal balls to Walters and then leaving him on his own with no support to create some thing out of nothing and then we will see a better and more effective player who leads from the front and gives 110%. Rumours of 4m and 2.5m bids say it all really.

every player has a price, if we can push them to £3m take it.

The only way forward for Ipswich town football is keane to be sacked early this season , then we can get someone in who knows what hes doing , so many bad decisions last season started when he sold Jordon Rhodes and then got Priskin .
