Two More Strikers Set to Move On?
Two More Strikers Set to Move On?
Wednesday, 18th Aug 2010 16:28

Two more Town strikers could be on their way out of Portman Road with Jon Stead understood to be continuing talks with Bristol City and Pablo Couñago a loan target of Crystal Palace. Jon Walters finally completed his move to Stoke this afternoon.

As reported earlier in the week, Bristol City have renewed their interest in Stead, despite talks with the Blues frontman previously breaking down. Stead is also holding talks with a number of other clubs, a move to Blackpool having also having fallen down after the former England U21 was unable to agree personal terms.

Crystal Palace were previously linked with a move for Couñago earlier in the month and a loan deal may suit all parties with the Eagles unlikely to be in a position to pay a fee or match the 31-year-old Spaniard’s current wages. Town would probably continue to pay part of the striker’s wages if he joins his former boss George Burley at Selhurst Park.

Couñago, who was spotted close to Town’s Playford Road training ground this afternoon, is currently out of favour at Portman Road having fallen out with boss Roy Keane after the recent friendly against a Spurs XI.

Over the weekend Town boss Roy Keane said he was hopeful of signing Wigan frontman Jason Scotland, although reports from Lancashire claim that move could be on hold until the Latics bring in a new striker.

Town may also seek to renew their interest in Cardiff’s Michael Chopra, widely understood to be Roy Keane’s top target this summer, now that Walters has gone and with the Bluebirds adding Craig Bellamy to their ranks.

Not being funny if Pablo goes to palace I want him to play against us, along with garvan and wright because I want keane to see the mistakes he made by letting them go! Absolutely rediculous!

ChambersM - don't worry, you're not being funny. Far from it, actually. So you want the ex-Ipswich players to play well AGAINST Ipswich? Some people really do hate Keane more than they love ITFC don't they! Still, I doubt they go to matches, so who cares...

I am happy to see Walters go, also I will be happy to see Pablo go but I would like Stead to stay. He is goo denough to cover the first team strikers (whoever they might be...)
I am concerned that we are not getting a striker in... We need two strikers badly now!

Keep faith in Cleggy? . . . you having a laugh? Has no track record in football and worse still isn't getting a good reputation for getting deals done.

3 million for Walters, you're right, Clegg cant negotiate for toffee lol. Really worried about playing Palace now with the lightening pace they are gonna have in their side lol. Some people are gonna have egg on their face very soon, not that it will bother them, they haven't reached the self aware stage of development yet.

i reckon some palace fans must feel just about the same like some town fans - they think of ipswich as some of our fans of sunderland... :)
might as well start to fancy palace as ipswich reserves... :)

£2.75M for Walters is a great deal... it won't rise to the £3.25m as I can't see him making the appearances to be honest... just warming the bench... Oh and I'd let both Stead and Pablo go, but only if we bring in at least 1 if not 2 more strikers.

Hi denhamblue

How many goals did Walters, Stead and Pablo get between them last year, not many. So we are losing very little in my humble opinion

All I am worried about is that the only striker we have available for sat. against Palace is Priskin, also the following tues, against Crewe.!!!!

Pabs and Steady..... best of luck to them both. I will be looking out to see how Palace do - even more so. Always liked Alan Lee and he didn't want to leave and think Pabs still has / had a place. Beggers can't be chosers and we aren't blessed with numbers. Keep Pbas - get money for Stead... but I am but one voice, etc.

Would be nice to be talking about players coming in to be honest...

Cardiff are expecting money from somewhere in the next few days. Their representative on tv last night responding to motherwells claim for the cash said they'd be in a position to clear it up within the next seven days. Who knows??

ramseyn --- perhaps Bellamy is proving it???

Walters wanted to go. Fair enough - good deal all round.

Pablo - fair enough. He can go also.

Stead - difficult one. Doesn't score loads of goals and is on a rumoured £15K per week. BUT is hard working and has had a good start to the season.

Bottom line: with Wickham out we need strikers. If Stead leave s before the weekend we MUST bring in at least one if not TWO new players on permanent deals. If not we should not let Stead go.

"Unfortunately Ross has been messed about by a few interested teams"

quote from his agent, guess he's not coming.

Tractorog added 20:56 - Aug 18
Stead is a an ok if not spectacular striker, but at £15k/week we could get better.
Pablo is like an old flame.
Time to rember the good times, sigh then remember the awful. Move on and cross the number out on the pages of Town's black book. Plenty more fish in the sea. He's no longer a cheap date and we just don't get to score often enough to justify continuing the relationship.

Pablo has been a waste of space since coming back. Unless it is sunny then he has not played well. get rid and take the money to get someone in who cares about the town.....

Stead I hope he stays he seems to give a toss about the club.
