Town Tracking Torquay Defender
Town Tracking Torquay Defender

Town are amongst a number of Championship sides watching Torquay United central defender Mark Ellis. The 21-year-old has started the season impressively and was short-listed for the August League Two Player of the Month award.

Plymouth-born Ellis was a youth player with Exeter City, where he did well enough to persuade Premier League Bolton to sign him for a fee of £90,000, which could potentially have risen to £600,000, when he was still only 17.

In 2007 the 6ft 2in tall defender joined Torquay on loan, then made the switch permanent in the summer of 2008. Ellis began last season on loan with Blue Square Premier club Forest Green Rovers but then established himself in the Torquay side in their first season back in League Two.

League One Peterborough United are understood to have had a £100,000 offer turned down in the summer.

I doubt we will try to sign him as Ipswich no longer tend to look at lower league players and besides we have lots of options at centre back.

Sounds quite promising according to various reports. why not :)

only if there is a serious injury to one of our defenders i dont think we need him though, unless he can play right back.

Sort of player we should be looking at, there must be plenty of talent out there, are we brave enough to take the chance?

Promising young player and would be happy to sign him for the right price. That said, we already have several promising young centre backs, so I doubt this is a goer...

Always happy to see us looking for promising young players from the lower leagues.

I would bet everything I own on this "transfer" story going absolutely nowhere, exactly like the other 20 odd players we were 'linked' with, boring

There are a lot of good players in the lower leagues. 21 years of age, tall, got a lot of things going for him.

McAuley, Delaney, Smith, Brown - what more could you want? Ellis maybe? If he can play RB then put an Ipswich shirt on him now.

If you want to sign a quality lower league player who scores plenty from midfield then look no further than Ryan Harley at Exeter City, I'm sure those who saw him against Town in the Meaningless Cup would agree?

unless he can play right back then i don't see how he will add anything to the squad we already have a lot of good young centre halfs,
