Keane Considering Speedway Debut
Keane Considering Speedway Debut

The Ipswich Witches may receive the support of Town boss Roy Keane when they face the Newcastle Diamonds in their play-off second leg at Foxhall Stadium on Thursday (7.30pm). The Blues manager says has never been to a speedway meeting and has been considering going along for a while.

Keane enjoys watching a variety of sports, having recently been at the All-Ireland Gaelic football final in Dublin - which was won by his home county of Cork - and is also a fan of rugby, boxing and Formula One.

The Irishman says that this week's play-off may be the ideal time to make his Foxhall debut: “I might go and watch it. I have an interest in sport. I’ve never been but Thursday night might be a good night to go.

“I’ve thought about going for the last few weeks but this Thursday night, I might well go up there.”

Witches sponsorship co-ordinator Horry Money told TWTD that they'd be delighted to see him: “We’d be pleased to welcome him up to the heath for what must be one of the biggest matches in the history of the Ipswich Witches. It would give our riders and our fans a huge lift.

“And I’m sure the travelling Newcastle supporters would be surprised to see an ex-Sunderland manager amongst the opposition ranks!”

The Witches, who finished bottom of the Elite League, face relegation to the Premier League if they lose their two-legged play-off with Newcastle. The Witches are two points ahead after Sunday’s first meeting at Brough Park.

Children in Halloween costume will be given free admission on Thursday, if they are attending with a paying adult, and can take part in a parade in the centre green with prizes for the best dressed.

Now that everyone knows he's thinking of going, he probably won't go!

I've just got this image of Roy turning up on a motorbike with Triggs in a sidecar. Both wearing goggles.

I wonder if he has been to watch any football this week maybe to have a watch of a few teams we might be drawn against in the quarters.....probably not!

That's why some people aren't "Keane" on you ChambersM at times on here!

Why would he go to watch games against sides we may or may not be playing in the next round?! I think he is maybe just about intelligent enough to realise he has a month from the draw to go and watch the side we get drawn against?

Some people....

I don't want to be hearing 'I might go and watch it. I have an interest in sport. I've never been but Thursday night might be a good night to go.' I'd rather hear about work going on at the training ground or being on the phone to other managers about a loan move or something, teaching priskin how to finish or Norris how to play football or something!

Chambers, you think Keane should work for us 24/7?

I think successful managers do more than their 40 hours a week

Or maybe with 24 million quid in the bank he's got Sky Sports Chambers!? Just a thought like! Powerful thing this 'ere speaky picture box on the wall.

Mind you with 7 other teams in the draw...why on earth didn't he watch all of them and cover every eventuality? Come to think of it, why wasn't he watching all those teams reserve games as well in case there were injuries to their first teamers?

For Christs' sake ChambersM, have a day off! This is an innocent story about Keano relaxing of an evening, trying to get involved in local events outside of football, and you turn it into an anti-Keane blast! Give the guy (and the rest of us) a break for once.

As ever, context is the thing with these reports - something that many people fail to grasp. I'd imagine that (yet again), this is RK responding to a question from a journo. I doubt that he called a press conference in order to announce that he may or may not attend a non-football sports event......

Blokes on bikes with no brakes sliding around corners at 90 mph with only wood to stop them when they come off. I love it but Foxhall isnt the best place to go as it is one of those first out of the gate tracks. Proper nutter sport.

C'mon you Witches.

Chambers there aren't any games tonight you pillock! A question was obviously put to him about local sport and he made a two sentence comment. There is no sensible comment to be had on this with any relevance to Keane's role as our manager. Get a grip.
