Norwich Derby Moves Thursday, 28th Oct 2010 15:16
The Blues’ home East Anglian derby with Norwich City has moved to Thursday 21st April with a 7.45pm kick-off having been previously set for the following day, which is Good Friday.
Town say the switch was agreed with Suffolk Constabulary after concerns about the additional costs and travel issues related to playing the game on a Bank Holiday.
In addition, some fans were unhappy at the match being scheduled for the religious holiday, while the game would also have impacted on the Ipswich Witches’ traditional Good Friday meeting.
A Town spokesperson said: "For fans of both clubs, the derby games are the most important fixtures of the season and we feel that bringing the game forward to miss the Good Friday holiday period gives the supporters of both clubs the best opportunity of being at Portman Road for what we are sure will be a great occasion.”

What a mad decision, it should have been put back to the Saturday, not forward to the Thursday. The police are asking for trouble agreeing to this as everyone will be on the lash all day. But it will probably move again when the TV companies are looking for live games at Easter. And what about the Boxing day home game with Watford, when there are no trains or public transport...are they going to move this game too ?!?

Absolutely ridiculous. Now I have to take a day off work and fight all the holiday traffic (I live 90 miles away). Since when was football a Thursday night game ? What was wrong with Saturday afternoon ? Absolute idiots.

Agree with you David. As someone who works nights and in a trade where the night before Good Friday will be one of the busiest of the year, this is utter b@@@@@@s!!!

Why is everyone going on about drinking all day? Do you people not have jobs? Disgusting decision. Looks like ITFC only care about local fans. Who gives a f about speedway.

gmanrom: people with jobs, young kids and who live 100+ miles away (and for whom having 6 pints prematch is not the biggest event in their life). For me tick all those boxes (although I am a bit jealous about not being able to fit in 6 pints). But hey, pacify the unhappy religious minority at all costs - are they going to be stopping all Sunday football for Christ's sake (literally I mean)? No, of course not, what a daft excuse.

excellent. lets crush these canaries. hopefully a win against norwich at a late point in the season, could possibly secure our chances for either play-offs or automatic promotion.

The game was originally switched from Saturday to Friday "on police advice", so how come the new switch has "been agreed with Suffolk Constabulary after concerns about the additional costs and travel issues related to playing the game on a Bank Holiday"?
