Keane: Priskin Not the Only Player to Have Needed Time
Keane: Priskin Not the Only Player to Have Needed Time
Saturday, 30th Oct 2010 10:10

Town boss Roy Keane says striker Tamás Priskin is by no means the only player who has taken time to settle at a club. The Hungarian is starting to make an impact at Portman Road this season after a less impressive first year with the Blues.

Keane dismissed suggestions that the 24-year-old, who has scored four goals this season, had been a disappointment since his £1.7 million move from Watford last summer: “There are certain players who come to clubs and it takes them a bit of time to get going at a football club - Damien at the start of last season, Jack Colback didn’t do much for two or three months, Jack was finding his feet.

“Tamás has had a full pre-season with us this year and remember when he came in last season we were a club which was going through a lot of changes.”

The Blues boss says at key moments things didn’t go right for Priskin last season: “I think there have been turning points for Tamás, up at Peterborough when he scored and then missed a penalty. I think there have been times when he could have kicked on and it hasn’t happened.

“I remember when we were up at Preston he had a chance when he went through on the keeper. It just wasn’t happening for him.

“Ironically, I saw Tamás get the same chance when he was on loan at QPR from exactly the same position and he slotted it in.”

Keane feels that signing Márton Fülöp in the summer has benefited Town’s other Hungarian international: “It’s helped him Márton coming to the club, Márton’s a big pal of his. Some players do like having a fellow countryman with them at a club. It helps. When I first came here Gio, Pablo and Campo would be off for their coffees down on the marina. It helps certain players.”

The Town manager says that fans are yet to see the best of the one-time GyÅ‘ri ETO player: “We know there’s more to come from Tamás, Tamás knows that. I said when we signed him you have to give certain players the benefit of the doubt.

“Sometimes you need a break and I think he earned that break the other night with his finish and his workrate.

“Tamás is different to our other strikers, that’s why you need three or four different strikers, they all bring something different to the party.

“Tamás is a talented player, but of course you need a bit more than the talent - the workrate, the concentration and sometimes that takes a bit of time to bed in.”

I accept that some players take time to bed in, but I do not accept that Priskin has yet proved that he has bedded in. He scored a goal against one of the worst teams in the football league, but against Watford the other week he was a disgrace.

Unconvinced...

Glad to hear that TP is finally starting to look the part. Would like to see a lot more from him going forward.. Needs to put in the hard work if nothing else...

Tamas is a striker who compliments GOOD teams. Played great in a good Watford team, played rubbish in a rubbish Ips team last season, playing ok in an ok Ips team this season (when chosen which is rare), so it should compute that when we start playing great we will have a striker good enough to compliment it.

We have got several who can score robdaful. Just need a team to supply enough ammo (and 4-4-2).

Priskin is doing better this year but still needs more game time with a settled partner ( Scotland ) and system ( 4-4-2 ) to get the best out of both ! CW is a player for the future ( impact sub not a regular starter ) as he still has a lot to learn ( not getting lured into silly bookings ) to become a very good player . Priskin shows touches of skill which will , with game time giving him more confidence , add to our ability to outplay other teams and score more goals .

Gio, Pablo, Campo going off to the marina for coffee sounds more like a Latin " Last Of The Summer Vino."
Sometimes i feel that there is a talented striker in Prisken struggling to get out and i do wish that he was more single minded about going for goal, like Scotland.

anyone who went on tues would agree that tamas played very well and imo the problem is the service he receives not him.he could be a very good player if he is used properley and has the ball played to him not hoofed at him

At £1.7M of course Priskin has been a disappointment!! This is a huge transfer fee for Ipswich and anything other than an impressive goal scorer for that money is a disappointment. Stead looked a better player than Priskin and usually got in the team ahead of him, yet he was sold for around £200K!

John Stead this; John Stead that. Every time I look at the boards he gets a mention. Let's get Richard Logan back, eh too? And 'Deadly' Dean Bowditch. I do hope Priskin scores today...

priskin looked good upfront with scotland today just looks like he can set them up rather than scoring them

I don,t believe some of these morons that one minute they are slagging off priskin then singing his name give the lad a chance keep supporting him whether he is doing alright or not he is a confidence player and needs the backing of both the manager and supporters have fiath in the scotland/prisken partnership with the right service they will form a formidable partnership and score goal or set up team mates to score COYB.
