Town Linked With Blackpool Defender
Town Linked With Blackpool Defender
Thursday, 18th Nov 2010 10:00

Town are eyeing Blackpool left-back Stephen Crainey, according to a tabloid report this morning. The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and the Blues are claimed to be ready to make a move in the new year.

Scotland international Crainey, who can open pre-contract talks with other clubs in January, is also said to be interesting overseas sides.

Crainey was previously with Celtic, Southampton and Leeds, joining the Seasiders after being released by the Yorkshiremen in the summer of 2009.

The Glaswegian has started 12 of Blackpool’s 13 Premier League games this season, so appears unlikely to want to move to the Championship at this point in his career.

Town already have Mark Kennedy, Tommy Smith, Darren O’Dea, Shane O’Connor and Jaime Peters who have played at left-back this season.

why do we only ever seem to be linked with players in the one position we do not need, left back.

Decent player, but we don't need to strengthen that position.

Roy could always play him at right back.

If you could strengthen the Ipswich team in any positon why would you start at left back with a mediocre, old, championship quality player? We've got a midfield of league one no hopers. Start there. Norris is waste of space.

Guys we do need a left back, not as much as we need a right back but we do need one.

O'Dea is ok but really a centre half and offers nothing going forward, Kennedy is past it and injury prone and for Smith see O'Dea but even worse !

What about a right back, or a creative midfielder that can make something happen, or a new manager that would be nice

Katemoss

You under estimate Norris, We went 17 games last season without a win when Noriis was injured and now he is out the side we are struggling in the middle of the park. I agree he may not be Prem class, but is a good championship player. Feel there are other midfiled players at the club who could go before Norris.

This has to be a non story why would we be after another left back and more to the point why would someone playing regular Premiership football drop down a league ?
As for the Norris debate, he isnt the problem he is a box to box midfielder who is chipping in with goals ,we were supposedly signing a passing creative midfielder in Leadbitter who has only sporadically come good and never really bossed many games .Which is why he was partnered with a defensive midfielder in Trotter for so long at the start of last season and other defensive minded worker midfielders since .That is the area we are lacking, £3.5 milllion and we could have had Charlie Adam for £500,000 .And no one can say Leadbitter hasnt been given a run of games to gel him into the team

right back please

Yes Surco we def need a midfield playmaker, someone who is comfortable on the ball, someone who will not treat the ball like a hot potatoe. A new Jim Magilton would be just what the doctor ordered. Loan players are not the anser in my humble opinion and the midfielders Norris Leadbitter Colbeck all good players but all much the same.

Crainey would be a good signing. A good age (29) & in his prime, experienced at International, champ and premier league level. And he would be a free transfer. His wage might be big enough though but to get any players to take us up to a higher level will cost a bit more in wages.
Just because he is a left back it doesnt mean the club are not on the look out for a RB.
When the opportunity to sign good quality players(regardless of position) that will improve the team arises and for free, its definately worth looking in to.

Re: Right Back

I'll be Right Back soon

Seriously, it's a load of tosh this story
I can't understand how Keane has not addressed the situation, playing Peters there is plain stupid as we need a more aggressive type and style which he hasn't got or ever will have.

Should have kept D Wright on as he'd have been a better option to what we've got.
I can't see 3 points coming our way at Hull > Pray now for 0-0 > Hallelujah Lord,
Save us from more defeats

Brian a mul please tell me why you think we have to pay bigger wages get up through this league? What about likes of a Matt Holland, David Johnson, John Mcgreal these players didnt require huge wages did they? What has happened to our scouting network and signing lower league players with a point to prove and the hunger to get better!

I'm struggling to understand why Keane feels we need yet another left back at the club, yet he cannot see that we desperately lacking in the right back department. Eastman is no right back, and Peters is better employed further up the pitch.

i'm sure he will make a great striker!!!

tom_the_blue added 16:10 - Nov 18
Could be a good signing, though I'd rather have a good right-back as although Eastman is solid enough he NEVER crosses the half-way line which limits our options in attack.

Haven't we got about 5 potential left backs at theclub already. Although none are that great.
Although what has O'Connor done wrong?????

Could we get another goalie also just to be on the safe side??

Worrying that there is no news on an RB and creative midfielder.

I think its a non story because at best Keane has until his contract runs out before Evans gets rid.

I therefore can't see him being allowed to sign anyone permanently.

A good buy we do need a lb and a rb and a striker for that matter :L and I can't see how you can all say we don't need a left back !!!

Currently we have a centre half playing this position - Roy has been totally slated for this. Then people have the nerve to say we don't need a left back!

Smith/Delaney are centre halfs.
Kennedy - very injury-prone
Peters - a midfielder
O'Conner - decent but a youngster
O'Dea - Only here until January

So yes, it would be good to sign a natural left back - afterall we are talking next season.

Decent player who probably isn't the slightest bit interested in moving to Ipswich. Playing regularly for Blackpool and doing reasonably well, so most likely will have better offers on the table from other Premiership clubs come the end of the season...

Suffolk_n_Good added 07:54 - Nov 19
It'll never happen, if he's playing regularly in the Prem why on earth would he want to drop down a division, he ain't gonna move from one end of the country to the other to take up a place at a club with a "sitting duck" manager, Evans may not get rid of Keane before the end of the season but thankfully at least his contract is up at the end of the season.

Why are so many people moaning about this? it only says we're linked. Probably no truth in it anyway.
