Keane: It Had 0-0 Written All Over It
Keane: It Had 0-0 Written All Over It
Saturday, 20th Nov 2010 18:32

Boss Roy Keane felt the game at Hull had 0-0 written all over it until Robert Koren’s second half strike consigned his side to their third successive defeat.

Keane said: “It probably looked like it had 0-0 written all over it and when you go away from home you would accept that, so it’s another difficult one to take.

“I think the effort and all that was fine. I think we could have done with a little bit more composure on the final ball, which is vital to win any game, even in the last 20 minutes when it got a bit hectic.

“We had one or two opportunities in the first half when we were breaking, Jack had one or two half chances, and Jason. That’s where we came up short today.

“I've no problem with the effort or the commitment from the players, that’s fine. But you just need that little bit extra to win football matches, particularly away from home.”

The Blues boss thought Koren’s goal might have struck one of his players its way through and believed his side had a couple of decent penalty claims when Tommy Smith and Connor Wickham appeared to be pulled back: “I think the goal took a deflection and I think there was probably a foul before that.

“I’m certainly not happy with two penalty decisions which we felt ought to have gone our way but we’ve now got to focus on the next game, lick our wounds and look to bounce back.”

Town’s away fans were supportive of the Blues boss despite the loss and the controversy regarding Keane’s criticism of last week’s booing.

The Irishman was unhappy that his side couldn’t give them something to celebrate: “We’re disappointed for them because they’ve travelled up and we know they paid good money and once again we’ve come up short. Disappointed, but we always are when we don't get the right result for the fans.”

Keane confirmed that defender Tom Eastman sustained a groin injury and will be struggling for next week’s game at Norwich, while David Norris was icing his ankle but Keane was hopeful that his skipper will be OK for the trip to Carrow Road.

Tigers boss Nigel Pearson was pleased to get the win: "It was important to get three points. It wasn't an easy game to win with the way in which they set up. We had to work very hard for it and there weren't many chances.

"But it was a good three points and much deserved. It wasn't the most fluent of games, but when we've had three home defeats on the trot there is always going to be a little bit of anxiety around.

"However, I thought we always tried to do the right things and we played some decent football at times, although without being too penetrating.”

I came all the way over from Mexico to see these two games, Hull away and obviously the more important matter of Norwich away. The last time i came home was last April for the Reading, Derby and Forest games, two of which we won and played "ok" and the third (Forest) we gave up.

What im finding the problem is SERIOUS lack of entertainment and the intention to play football the way Ipswich Town traditionally do. Are you really telling me we are going to every away game, travelling 6 hours and spending 100 quid of our money to see a long ball, backs to the wall and pray we sneak one attitude???? That part i find completely un-acceptable, a waste of time and seriously damaging my motivation to go and see the team i love. I can handle losing, but in the right manner.....The Ipswich Town way, attacking, pass and move football with the ball on the floor looking to tear our oponents to pieces with Total Football...God, i remember a time then Jonno, Mathie and Co were banging in 5 a week....! That has gone and for entertainment value (ie Team Lay-Out / Tactics) i give the management 0 out of 10. Without dragging on, we all want the best for our Football Club but these days, football is expensive, time is limited and right now, entertainment value is low...im sure people are thinking twice about going.

On a positive note: Please make my trip worthwhile amd send we back to Mexico happy with a long ball, backs to the wall, 1-0 win with a deflected goal off some-ones ar$e against the scum....! Come on the Town

Dispappointed with the level of personal abuse guys. Hopefully you will redirect this enthusiasm at Norwich in the next few days.I have made my point,-I think we should all get behind our team for the next couple of days.Seems few of you want to listen. I suspect that some of you would love to see us lose badly against Norwich and get knocked out of the cup.
That isn't a sentiment i share.

I hope we do well against Norwich, but if we don't win then I think Keane is down the road. However I bet a large number of people on here hope we don't win so that he walks. I think Keane is a manager who could take Ipswich forward, But before you slag me off, it's clear he doesn't have the back up.
The scouting reports must be bloody awful as how many times have you seen us play the high ball to the forwards when there back line is 6 feet plus. Or why not cross it the keeper much be crap at catching the ball... Oh no he catches everything.
Secondly why arent the assistants saying, it's not working and suggest changes, even the most stupid people can see the formation needs changing.
A thought for the CEO to suggest to Keane.

Lets put some other stuff to bed, as the fans who brought shares in the club only hold 11% or so of the holding company how can you complain about money going into the club and lack of passion. It's clear the fans never did it before and we were lucky but times have changed and the sooner some of you realise this fact the better. We are no longer a large club, we are no longer going to be right at the top of the table because we are Ipswich, we are going to be a club like Coventry, Norwich, etc.. a club that holds position on the league but not setting the world alight. Players won't come to Ipswich because we are in the middle of now where the town is dead. Be it shopping and with the traffic improvements (laugh) it will make it a worse place and trying to get someone to come here must be bloody hard work.

So we can change manager but it wont change the bigger picture. Maybe wrong but the players are really saying please sign me up are they?

Vexorg - Obviously Keane had some family in the crowd or the other option is the beer is a lot cheaper up there and some people had way to much and put on there rose-tinted beer goggles.

well said bobble.any monkey who cheers for keane at this point has the intellect of a turnip.
my son changed his ipswich tactics on fifa 2011 to defensive long ball with scotland up front. where has our passing gone? none of our players play football. they all seem to be mindless donkeys.
i would accept any results that remove keane from office at this stage. people gop on about pride for our team here.i have no pride in our boring, boring, boring football.no rb and hit and hope football.
Fear GM will be missed on sunday, hoolahan could have a field day

Most of you are going to look pretty stupid if we beat Norwich on Sunday.

This plan to boot out Keane immediately and replace him with Curbishley... Do you know Curbs wants to join? Do you know our football and results will improve? What responsibility will you have to take if THAT doesn't work, or will you be back on here giving it the 'Curbs out' drone? Is that your idea of progress?

Have an ounce of patience ffs.

wont look stupid but will be surprised ! do you hand on heart expect us to win ?Curbishley would not be a good choice in my opinion ,we want to see good football,Curbs is not noted for that.We want someone with a bit of life in them for a start .

Bluroo - nearly all of us had the patience last season and this season in my opinion is worse than last, at least we had some width and attack then now its all defend. How much longer do you wish this farce to continue? End of the season ,with Keane, we will be fighting relegation. A loss on Sunday to scum and we will be continuing our battle to avoid relegation from last year.

Just passed Keano with his own personalised number plate, last three letters 00F.

If we were to win at Norwich I still believe that Keane is not the man to manage Ipswich Town. When was the last game we fans came away saying that we were entertained, we have been in a false position all season.

Blueroo: patience for what? What do you see happening that will dramatically improve us? He's got an entire new team at his disposal. We've had the so-called transitional season, and now we look... terrible. We get a bit of luck and have a good run, and as result we're ... still terrible. It's not like we play free-flowing football when we've won a couple of games and confidence is high or anything.

Enough is enough. Keane out.

i have read posts right through the forum and board and i cant believe people still think he (Keane)is the right man for Ipswich , it just beggers believe. Ignore all pre points regarding this subject and please make an honest judgement when you see the team selection and dread the next awful performance.
ITFC has been found out like any team does but usually in that scenario the manager of the team will adapt, change tact or counter attack our weakness but our manager is clueless, stubborn(idiot) he is also socially inept and now he is under pressure you will see the same kinda madness and siege mentality that was seen in Hitlers last days (if you think i am over reacting watch what happens at Portman road this season) but as a supporter who will no longer watch the cr8p on show i also think that when Keane finally leaves (sooner rather than later) that idiot Clegg can go (wanted to swear) with him!! I post this before the Naarwich game because i am pretty confident by the time that game finishes i will yet again be spitting feathers and willing to ring the wifes neck (sarcasm, please dont be offended) because i will be angry at what i see.
This is what has happened at our Club , i am now dreading the next performance but what i find really bizarre is that if for some miraculous reason we win at Norwich i will be very happy and the wife will have a stay of execution (again joking) but a bit of me will be dissapointed because Keane will also have a stay of execution! now if i feel like that i am either a lunatic or there is something seriously wrong at this football club!
And please dont give me all that rebuilding and adapting nonsense because as i have previously posted if there were signs of something promising in the pipeline i wouldnt expect instant success, but all we have got is an unbalanced squad with too many loanees topped off with our best players being played out of position or being deselected for man of match performances!
ITS RUBBISH I SAY AND WE NEED TO TAKE THIS CLUB OUT OF THE HANDS OF THE WALLIES WHO KNOW HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS BUT NOT A FOOTBALL CLUB, KEANE LEAVING IS NOT ENOUGH, TIME TO TURN OUR ATTENTION TO THE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEBACLE !!!
