Keane: It Had 0-0 Written All Over It
Keane: It Had 0-0 Written All Over It
Saturday, 20th Nov 2010 18:32

Boss Roy Keane felt the game at Hull had 0-0 written all over it until Robert Koren’s second half strike consigned his side to their third successive defeat.

Keane said: “It probably looked like it had 0-0 written all over it and when you go away from home you would accept that, so it’s another difficult one to take.

“I think the effort and all that was fine. I think we could have done with a little bit more composure on the final ball, which is vital to win any game, even in the last 20 minutes when it got a bit hectic.

“We had one or two opportunities in the first half when we were breaking, Jack had one or two half chances, and Jason. That’s where we came up short today.

“I've no problem with the effort or the commitment from the players, that’s fine. But you just need that little bit extra to win football matches, particularly away from home.”

The Blues boss thought Koren’s goal might have struck one of his players its way through and believed his side had a couple of decent penalty claims when Tommy Smith and Connor Wickham appeared to be pulled back: “I think the goal took a deflection and I think there was probably a foul before that.

“I’m certainly not happy with two penalty decisions which we felt ought to have gone our way but we’ve now got to focus on the next game, lick our wounds and look to bounce back.”

Town’s away fans were supportive of the Blues boss despite the loss and the controversy regarding Keane’s criticism of last week’s booing.

The Irishman was unhappy that his side couldn’t give them something to celebrate: “We’re disappointed for them because they’ve travelled up and we know they paid good money and once again we’ve come up short. Disappointed, but we always are when we don't get the right result for the fans.”

Keane confirmed that defender Tom Eastman sustained a groin injury and will be struggling for next week’s game at Norwich, while David Norris was icing his ankle but Keane was hopeful that his skipper will be OK for the trip to Carrow Road.

Tigers boss Nigel Pearson was pleased to get the win: "It was important to get three points. It wasn't an easy game to win with the way in which they set up. We had to work very hard for it and there weren't many chances.

"But it was a good three points and much deserved. It wasn't the most fluent of games, but when we've had three home defeats on the trot there is always going to be a little bit of anxiety around.

"However, I thought we always tried to do the right things and we played some decent football at times, although without being too penetrating.”

OK, so it seems clear most of you want Keane out.

So let's assume for a moment you get your wish and he's gone.

Who do we get in his place?

I full expect lots of you pitching for Curbishley (out of management for ages and has he settled the legal stuff yet)

Other than that who do you want in and given that the supporter continually complain at the least little thing who would want it.

Discuss.......................

No the supporters who boo during a game and cheer the opposition are the people turning the club into a laughing stock !! When will they realise this situation has been coming for years mainly because of self serving chairmen leading us into financial problems !!! Instead of spending time getting onto FA committees and such he could have done more to take the club forward so that this situation would not have arisen . I never have thought RK was the manager for this club and I still dont but he is here and should therefore be given all the support he needs to take our club forward ! Sacking him is not likely to bring any improvement short term and will only lead to more bad feeling over the choice of replacement ( everyone will choose differently ) and the same situaution arising within 12 - 18 months !!!! Nothing more to say .

3 games that we should have been looking to win, lost all three and now face an in-form Norwich side. don't hold much hope to be honest, hope I am wrong! but can see us tumbling into the relegation battle and with the players we have that is criminal! If Keane cannot get the team playing and motivate the players then surely he has to either resign or ME get rid of? I hope RK can turn this one round but losing hope to be honest and to make it worse the football the team are playing is probably the worst ever for several decades.

Cromwell - You're point is a fair one, we need to have someone who can come in and do a decent job if we are to get rid of the manager, just like you'd expect to have a couple of full backs in place if you are going to rid of everyone at a club that naturally plays in that position.
I am at the stage now though, where I would be happy to see Keane go without a ready replacement as I feel that his tactics, outbursts & arrogance are doing serious harm to the club I have supported for over 30 years.

In terms of a replacement: Someone has already posted Poyet/Tarricco as an option, and do you know what? It's not the worst idea I've read. Poyet has been very impressive since moving into management/assistant management, and has been happy to serve his apprenticeship and work his way up the leagues. Learning to live with the squad you have and the money you have, so that you can get the best out of your players by motivating them is a competency that is seriously lacking in our current leader. Throw in a few wads of cash and you're looking at success for the kind of man clubs like ours need at the helm. Look at what Owen Coyle has done with meagre enough funds, but no end of footballing sense & man management skills.

Having read a considerable number of anti posts having a go at the quality of the players in the squad and the football they are playing. My own opinion is that we now have a reasonable squad, certainly better than last year. RK has put this squad together, and he should be given some credit for this.

Where it all seems to fall over is his tactics and team selection. Sort this out and I sincerely believe we have a squad that can get into the play-offs. How you sort it out I have no answer.

Meekreech, you dick! you go on about pretty football and that its not the way forward, and need to give the team time to adapt to the new style, why then sign 2 players on loan from tottenham a club reguarded as football purists and expect t
hem to play long ball kick and rush football,
I live in the real world dont you worry about that and its not loooking pretty!! at all for the town it has to change with the sacking of keane!!

Roy Keane. He is still an inexperienced manager. But he gets jobs because he is 'box office'. Will he still be 'box office' after ITFC? I think he will struggle to get another job at this level. There really is no hiding place. Falling out with players and then freezing them out. He hasn't learned quickly enough, and he hasn't been able to change, whereas some of the best managers start young, and have the appropriate experience and personality (Holloway, Redknapp, for other clubs, and the late Sir Bobby, also the late John Lyall) before they join a club of the stature of Ipswich Town. Roy Keane has observed one-off type managers who've had no successful copies or imitators (Sir Alex - one match away from the sack, lucky not to be sacked way back, and B. Clough - had Peter Taylor to identify new players). If you want Roy to leave, he could be provoked into resigning, cheering the opposition at home matches is quite likely to work, these are desperate times as it will hurt the players and goes against the grain for 99% of supporters. I agree with most of you that the most depressing thing is the relegation form, with supporters' cash draining away, leaving in their droves. The derby is looming. Because only 5 to 10 percent of supporters travel, away matches don't have that much impact on whether a manager stays, especially this week because everyone is up for the derby. With an experienced manager, and there is still a chance of the play-offs this season. Sacking Roy Keane would be a terrible financial decision for the club. Also, Marcus Evans with The Championship on the CV for two years, how much longer before he cuts us adrift? But Roy Keane did get one thing right, we're well rid of Owen Garvan, luckily George Burley was around to pick him up. Does Roy Keane scare players? Did you see Garvan's sending off yesterday, and George Burley defending him? They deserve each other. Recruiting Roy Keane had everything to do with boosting pre-season ticket sales, and nothing to do with tried and tested managerial attributes on his CV. I see John Walters scored a couple of goals in the Premier yesterday. If we remember he did quite well under our last manager, he might still be at our club, with a different manager.

That's all very well, but where do we go from here? I think we have to suffer or walk away until the end of Roy Keane's contract. I hope Marcus Evans and Simon Clegg are already trawling around the leagues for the new manager, ready to act when the time is right.

Norwich 2 Ipswich 4 (hat-trick Connor Wickham - if picked!) COYB. If not playing Connor, why didn't we cash in? Roy must be running the club not Evans/Clegg. This guy Connor needs to go in January unless Roy starts building the team around him. He must be our best player if he is worth that much. His career and selling on price will go downhill very fast unless we build on, or cash in on, the hype.

Cottoneyedjoe I agree completely.

I think some of these Keane supporters are just a bit annoyed at how particularly offensive some peoples comments are. I'm sure I'll be told I'm being too sensitive etc but it is a bit much when we start calling our own boss a c++t don't you think?

I'm as keen (no pun intended) as everyone else for Keano to leave now. But maybe some people need to be a little more constructive on here rather than wade on, throw some swear words about and expect people to positively respond to it.

Keane out, COYB.

all this cr_p about so-called unrealistic expectations. Well, teams with less resources than us ahead of us the table, right now, Swansea, Derby, Leeds, N*rwich, Doncaster, Cov, Reading, Barnsley. A good few of them playing good, passing football, or at least, attacking football

moomoosereni added 20:54 - Nov 21
spot on jayessess. It isn't unrealistic. I can't remember many people saying that they wanted Royle out like some of the pro keaners are claiming on here? With the lesser resources he produced an attacking and at times exciting team to watch.

To say that our expectations are too high only have to watch Keanes first press conference as Town boss to wonder why they are high. Promotion in two seasons. Yes two seasons aren't up just yet, but we are going nowhere at the moment.

QF's of the carling cup, yes, but at what cost?

You have to worry when a manager is paid £3M a year, spent near on £10M and still doesn't know what his best formation or team is in 18 months of doing the job. For him to come out and say you would accept 0-0 says it all and what his style of football is and what he had drummed into the team.

I was even more saddened at the state of our club last night by hearing such a refreshing statement from Ian Holloway (we missed a trick when he was interviewed and JM appointed) that they will always go for it and entertain the fans because of the hard earned money they pay. Will we ever hear that RK? I don't think so. Also, watching goals being scored left right and centre from outside of the box etc. When was the last time we saw goals being scored by ITFC in that manner? Actually, when was the last time you walked away from PR having watched a convincing win?

Times change and football changes but we have gone backwards and feel that we will continue to do so under the current tenure. We are now not even hard to beat and scoring 20 goals in 18 games means we will never win enough games. As I said last night, our form is that of relegation form. If we lose next week then the alarm bells have to ring.

RK "talks the talk" and has been given the resources that other managers would only dream of but still that is not enough. There is always something he will come up with. Quote after quote after quote. It is tiresome. And to read that the players hardly acknowledged the fans yesterday must have come from RK.

His priority in the summer was an experienced assistant. That didn't materialise and what happened when Peter Taylor was expected to join? RK has even admitted in the past that perhaps he got lucky at Sunderland!

People are so right about John Lyall and what he did with Duncans flops. That could be the case here.

Gordon Strachan did the honourable thing and walked when he realised that he wasn't up to the job. We can all but pray.

We all want is best for our club and we have no devine right to be top 6/PL but I do feel that RK is now taking us all for a ride and we will be here long after he goes with his brimming bank account. Does he care?

my wages dont allow me to buy a season ticket so im limited to 4-5 games a season as an expensive treat, ive done this since i was a kid in the John Duncan days.In that time ive seen some rubbish(excluding the burley highs)but nothing compared to the crap ive seen over the last two seasons,if we play good footy and lose, fair enough but to pay that money and see my team lose in the manner that i witnessed last week to yorkshire brazil(barnsley)&qpr earlier in season(the only 2 games ive been to this season so far)is hard to take.I want keano to succeed here but i think time is running out.COYB,lets do dem canaries 3-0 just to silence them scummers i have to work with every day!

Even if we win next week there'll no doubt be a few ignoramus's on here cheering "keano keano" but they're not looking at the bigger picture...i've said it before,a couple of wins and yes we do go up 5 or 6 places BUT that's just papering over a bloody big crack..the standard of football that keane has brought to ITFC over the last 20 months has been amateurish, boring and at best inconsistent..that's why so many fans are feeling so restless and it will carry on while keane's here.

I hope this time next week he is gone..i'm looking at the long term of this club which is currently being destroyed by this egomaniac, not bragging rights until the next time we play Norwich.

If you had any decency keane you would walk..what's also very depressing is that our owner doesn't seem to have the bottle to get rid.

Replacements ? :

Alan Curbishley would be first choice - a no brainer,he's made for this club.

Ray Wilkins - would get us playing good football & obviously loved by the players at chelsea..

Dave Jones - brilliant manager, not sure we'd be able to get him though.

George Burley/Matt Holland - just imagine what he could do with our squad..at Palace but it's not working out there at the mo.

Curbishley? You want Curbishley? You think it's bad at the moment. Jeez. Be careful what you wish for. Best wait for Holloway after Blackpool go down and he's fired. Mind you, by then we could be in Division 4 but at least we'd win a few more games.

i think the next game [naarich] is going to be my last, until Keane is gone,THINGS HAVE NOT IMPROVED IN THE TIME KEANE HAS BEEN MANAGER, and no sign of that changing.Defeat at Carrow Rd will be the last straw for me.Im not blessed with a fat wallet, and question myself as to why i waste so much money following Keanes dreary circus. 45 years of watching TOWN , seen the best, and now seeing the worst .I can find better use for my money .

dirtydingus I can't say I blame you mate, I really don't want to vote with my feet but maybe a lack of money coming in may make Evans look at things differently.
If I stay away it's because I'm not entertained any more, I don't get that thrill of coming to games & I hate watching negative team, boring, boring, boring.
The players of course have their part to play but Keane's poor purchases, management of players and dire tactics are killing our club . I'd rather see us 'having a go' than keep a clean sheet every week and try to sneak the odd winner.

Keane is full of talk but has proved he cannot walk the walk!

I'm not sure who'd want to come here, probably less than you'd think, lets just hope if Keane goes we take our time and go for quality rather than celebrity this time!!!!

curbishly has not taken / not been offered the last 30-40 jobs in the top leagues - he was a failure at west ham (like Zola), there must be a question mark over him, so why do would we want to take on someone who hasn't been in the game for 2-3 years

Calmingwind added 00:38 - Nov 22
failure? saved them from relegation then lead them to a top half finish a season later. he only left the club due to them infringing on his contractual rights by selling players without him knowing. to which he decided to leave and then won a court judgement against the club for them breaking his contract.

all here if you want to read it yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Curbishley
