Norris: We Let Down the Fans and the Staff
Norris: We Let Down the Fans and the Staff
Monday, 29th Nov 2010 11:14

Skipper David Norris felt the players let down the fans and Roy Keane and his management staff during Sunday’s 4-1 derby defeat at Norwich. The 29-year-old hopes they can go some way towards making amends when the Blues take on West Brom at Portman Road in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

Norris said: “It was hard to even go over to the fans at the end of the game. They stood out yesterday and when a few of us went over to their section they clapped us. It was almost embarrassing to take it.

“We have got to start giving them something back starting with Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final against West Brom.

“To the players it was probably just another game — another three points. But to the staff their jobs are on the line.

“And to our fans there was local pride at stake, and the derby really means a lot to them. We let them all down. It was an embarrassing defeat with no positives and us players have got to look at ourselves."

Norris, who is in talks regarding extending his time at Portman Road beyond the end of the season, says Keane and his coaches do everything to ensure positive results: “The manager and staff prepare us right on the training ground. They can change this and change that but once we cross the white line it is down to us.

“The manager is coming under increasing pressure, as we all do when you are losing games. We are playing for new contracts, and it is part and parcel of football, but we have to give ourselves a chance.”

The former Plymouth man says the derby was a chance to turn things around after the three previous defeats: “This was no ordinary game and after losing three on the trot this was a match that could have put right the wrongs of the three previous games.

“As mistakes go the first two Norwich goals were shockers. We are not picking on individuals and they were from players you can normally rely on, but they had no place in a game like yesterday’s.”

Giving your weeks salary to charity would be a nice touch for that poor result.....
As captain take the lead and be in command. did anyone shout man on to the defenders?

How many times have we heard this from the players that they have let us down!!
If you cant do it for a derby game whats going to make it any different to the possible Semi final place.

After the defeat to WBA, it will be we have let the fans down and we must go out there and do better

Less words now more action please

'To the players it was just another game' Jeez you think they may have had a bit more about it than that - Playing local rivals and having lost three on the bounce - TBF he was one of the better performers - Leadbitter gone backwards since last season , No creativity - oh yes there is he doesnt pick em he has Colin 'my mate' Healy - I would have preferred Denis Healy

"To the players it was probably just another game — another three points"

Says it all really about the attitude of the players, I'm sure Lambert didnt get this comment from any of his players!

C'mon Chuck, you can do better than that! We have heard this one before.
Actions speak louder than words.

Keane is not a great man manager or communicator so its up to you and other senior players to motivate the players and start improving performances on the pitch. Of course the questionable tactical instructions from sidelines dont help but we need to see the team play with fire & passion from now on.

COYB!!!

I'm sick of players saying this.

Like it or not the comments are spot on. Keane picked the team I would have picked with what was available and they did not come up with the goods - simple as. All the Macauley bashers on here last season will perhaps now realise what an excellent player he is and until we find the solution during his missing games I fear the slump will continue. A lot of us have been saying we have no experienced cover on the right of the central defence and so it has proved. I now have to say I fear the worst for the Club the way things are going. Hope I'm wrong but not looking good is an understatement. It all started to go wrong when Keane rested Hyam up until then the 4-1-4-1 was working superbly so why did it change. All very baffling to me.

When we play a midfield 4 of Leadbitter, Norris, Colback and Edwards we have a midfield that neither creates or ball wins, lacks vision and easily loses shape.
They are a lumpen mass of run-a-rounders with poor distribution and no pace (Leadbitter was appalling).
Its no wonder they are often bypassed by the unprotected back 4.

Has Norris taken over from Jon Walters as chief apologist? Not a popular role in general.

I wonder dear TWTD'ers, What hope does any new manager have confronted by the dire mess they will find on taking over from Keane?

Its easy to make a statement like this Mr Norris (good of you to do so), BUT.....
Do you bloody talking on the pitch! I do not expect us to beat West Brom, I would even take a point at home to Swansea and Leicester the following week to be honest - but we have to start playing football and be more of a unit otherwise I really do fear for us this season. Such a shame after an impressive start.

yawn, same old crap. Same after Barnsley, we'll do this, we'll do that, we'll put things right, its all the players fault blah blah blah. Was there an apology in there?? Really very boring now. Totally inept.

little to no positives from yesterday. The town fans did appreciate norris coming over. he held his hands up and said sorry several times. This was appreaited by those fans who saw it. We need leaders on the pitch and senior players to show the way. Derby have them, so do QPR. Newcastle had them too.

ozzy_itfc added 12:13 - Nov 29
norris was the only player giving 100 percent in yesterdays game he did not stop running the second he slid to ground he was straight back up and running again he was sliding in and making forward runs, was not his fault in the slightest.

on the other hand though what i would like to have seen was when these dodgy passes were being played why was there no-one shouting at them asking what the hell was they thinking of or doing beause it wasn't just once or twice, someone should be shouting at and commanding the players on the pitch, i think thats where we miss mcauely.

Just another game??? you should be putting 110% in all games whoever the opponent is and whatever level they play at. you get paid thousands a week and you should repay this on the field. Keane can only do so much but if the players cant be bothered what can he do, i would'nt play them and let players that are willing to give more a chance.

EatonBlue added 12:20 - Nov 29
That's all very well but you've been letting us down for the last two months.

Stop apologising and win the next 5 games on the trot.
Then I might begin to forgive that horror show yesterday

U say chuck came over to the fans and said sorry that was good of him but how many really bad home games have we seen and Ive watched the players head straight for the tunnel U might get 1 normaly leadbetter sometimes 2 who even bother to come over the half way line towards the bobby stand So as far as im concerned this is just another excuse

“To the players it was probably just another game — another three points. But to the staff their jobs are on the line" - appreciate your honesty and i had you as man of the match - however, for the captain to say that it was just another game to the players is one of the most shocking things i have heard from an ipswich player. You are also right about the managers job - hopefully his tenure is measured in days if not minutes - FORK

BlueVelvet added 12:27 - Nov 29
Unfortunately you (the players) let Carrow Rd intimidate you - the occasion got to you. Call yourself professionals - focus on the job in hand - just another team another game. You had all the support from fans you needed and yet you bottled it. Not RK's fault at all.
