Fülöp a Doubt for West Brom Quarter-Final
Fülöp a Doubt for West Brom Quarter-Final
Monday, 29th Nov 2010 16:03

Keeper Márton Fülöp as emerged as a new injury doubt ahead of Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final against West Brom. The Hungarian international suffered an ankle injury in the weekend defeat at Norwich.

Manager Roy Keane told the club site that the former Sunderland man’s fitness will become clearer on Tuesday: "Márton is a concern. We will know more tomorrow."

Fülöp is yet to play in the Carling Cup for Town with Brian Murphy having been in goal for the games at Exeter, Crewe, Millwall and at home to Northampton.

Already on the sidelines with injury are Gareth McAuley (achilles), Luke Hyam (hamstring), Connor Wickham (thigh), Tom Eastman (groin) and Mark Kennedy (hamstring), while loanees Gianni Zuiverloon, Jack Colback, Jake Livermore and Rory Fallon are unavailable having played for their parent clubs in the competition already this season.

Meanwhile, the Blues have confirmed that they will not be appealing against Damien Delaney’s red card at Norwich. The Irishman will serve his one-match ban on Wednesday.

Think Murphy would keep Goal regardless of this injury worry.

Murphy should be playing anyway, He is a decent keeper and should keep his place in the carling cup irrespective of what round it is

I know Keane hasn't performed and he should definitly go after all the time, money and support he has had until now however If we had a manager we actually liked in charge I'm sure we would be making a major song and dance over all these injuries.

West Brom is going to be a major problem for us. Will be a magnificent achievement if we pull something off against them. I'll be there in the freezing cold to support the lads so COYB!

no comment about the match until i have seen the Squad selection which i think gonna be real interesting to say the least, Edwards fullback? Priskin dropped because he aint good enough and replaced by Fallon LOL? Keane is starting to make Mick McGiven look good. C,mon the blues try to keep it under 5 for WBA and please please please get at least one shot on target.

LOL @mediamatt best thing i read all day, Fullop putting a claim in against Keane for repetative strain on his back HAHAHA ! useless tactics causing too many goals obviously resulting in Fullop having to pick the ball out of the net HAHAHA

@lunatic38. sunday was woeful but shot count matched norwich's, just only one went it.

WBA is a tough game and the lack of choice of players is harsh.

if everybody didnt hate RK so much the injury list would be the major concern

@Lingy1985
Please dont get sucked into the injury crisis cr.p that is about to be stuffed down our throats, cmon dude. If we lost a good hard fought derby then yes i would be considered over reacting but it was a complete and utter shambles and you know it. On paper we are quite strong and we could have at least matched the yellow bellies in all departments but substitutions and position/tactics had the whole football world kinda scratching there heads so dont insult my intelligence with injury rubbish!!

We still have a decent side to put out and the game can be won.

Where is O'Connor? he must get a start on Wednesday. Only area where we will be weak is straight through the middle with both our star centre halves unable to play.

Team Murray
O'Connor, O'Dea, Smith, Peters
Norris, Townsend, Leadbitter, Edwards
Scotland and Priskin

Fulop was very disappointing yesterday - particularly for their fourth goal. Murphy should be given a chance. Decent keeper who has never let us down. That said, he will be busy tomorrow night - no idea who we have to play in defence! Just hope Roy attacks in order to give our defence a break!!!

Fulop, Murphy, Fulop, Murphy...all these changes are not helping our cause! We need a settled defence. I know injuries can't be avoided, but we should select as settled a side as we can.

Fulop is probably marginally better than Murphy, but I can't honestly say the improvement was worth making him the biggest summer signing for (presumably about £2.5M when wages over his contract are taken into account). Was goalkeeper really the priority position to address in the summer? A mistake I think.
