Keane Fires Warning to Reserves
Keane Fires Warning to Reserves
Friday, 10th Dec 2010 15:21

Boss Roy Keane has warned some of his reserves side that they risk not just being released by the Blues but dropping out of professional football altogether if they repeat performances like Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Luton having been ahead at half-time. Town’s reserves are now bottom of the seven-team Totesport.com Football Combination East Division.

Keane said: “It was a very disappointing result and they’re on a bad run now. A lot of these boys who played in the reserves on Tuesday, their contracts are up in the summer and they’ll have a reality check over the next few months.”

The Blues boss says that for some of them it’s beyond just a case of having work to do to win themselves new contracts with Town: “I would say more than that if they want to be footballers, not just at this club, at any level. A lot of young boys and one or two senior players who played, their contracts are up.

“The reserves haven’t come on. We rewarded six or seven scholars last year when we gave them the deals and told them that they were now in the big league and wouldn’t be getting arms wrapped around them by academy coaches Sammy Morgan and Gerard Nash and have people like that baby-sitting them. They’re in the real world now and they’ve got to earn a living.

“Jack Ainsley’s gone out on loan to Histon and he’s had a reality check. It’ll be good for them, an interesting few months for them.”

Keane says it’s not so much about a lack of endeavour: “Their effort is fine, but you’ve got to win football matches, you’ve got to do the basics right. When you get in a winning position you’ve got to see the game through. They’ll have a reality check over the next few months.”

Asked about Argentinian midfielder Luciano Civelli, a member of Tuesday’s reserves side, Keane said: “Luca? He needs to do more.”

Meanwhile, Saturday's U18 and U16 games at Southampton have been postponed due to the poor weather.

The coaching at the club is not good enough. It can't be a coincedence that Keane ideas about the game don't work at any level. Two years ago the club was moaning that the reserve league wasn't strong enough!! The signs are there for all to see. Stop the blind faith in this once great footballer and see him for what he is, a very average manager who is not suited to our club.

Hourihane (sp?) is the mystery to me. Signed with a little fanfare in the summer as a really promising youngster, has he even made the first-team bench? He's played poorly for the reserves (by all accounts) and seems to be nowhere. I hope we didn't have to pay Sunderland compensation for him.

It's becoming increasingly more apparent that our dear club is in complete disarray, both in terms of our playing ability & our ambitions. You would have thought that with the money RK has spent we would have a decent team and reserve squad. We started the season with 4 potential top class players : Garvan,Walters Rhodes and Wickham. Connor's certain to be the last to leave in Jan. Even the most ardent Keane supporter must admit that despite the spending the club has gone backward since his arrival.

I think the reserves should tell Keane if he don't start winning his career is over. I mean the cheek of it, Theyve only had a bad game, He's had a bad 18 months. Look in the mirror and do the decent thing and walk.

Agreemripswich. who amoung us wasn't delighted when Marcus came along with the cash? I don't remember any bad comments on here at the time.

My first post on Keano being appointed was a warning of what would happen though.

In any business motivation of the staff is a key area and can take many forms. Putting the fear of god into them can have short term results but is not the way forward. Roy Keane's constant threat of 'never playing for ths club again' is wearing thin. From the first team to the reserves, the players live in fear of making a mistake for fear of losing their livelihood. This fear is not a positive one but a negative. Whilst players tense up with the fear of making a mistake, the more they will do so.

It is time to kick this idiot out of the club. We need someone who can bring on the players with praise and cajoling. Not threats and bullying like this Irish thug.

Roy Keane is to man management what chocolate is to fireguards and teapots.
