Arsenal Claimed to Be Leading Wickham Chase Sunday, 26th Dec 2010 09:39
Town's Carling Cup semi-final opponents Arsenal are leading the chase for Blues striker Connor Wickham, according to one of this morning’s tabloids. Other recent reports have said much the same about Tottenham and Liverpool with plenty of Premier League clubs eyeing the England U21 international.
According to this morning’s claims, £10 million-rated Wickham is unlikely to move in January — as was similarly reported a week ago - but a switch to the Gunners could be on in the summer.
At the recent AGM, chief executive Simon Clegg outlined the club’s position regarding the 17-year-old frontman: “There are no offers on the table for Connor, there is a lot of speculation, a lot of hot air out there. Roy and myself are clear that we’d like to retain him, as indeed is the owner.
“But you may get to the point in the future where the offer for the player is considerably in excess of the value that we place on him as a club and financially it would be wrong not to take that.
“If you find yourself in that situation, you would expect that money to be reinvested to replace that particular player as that would be a huge loss for the team and that hole would need to be filled.”

This speculation will go round and round. I just hope he doesn't leave in a cut price deal due to him only having a year left on his contract and after what could be a poor season for him. Will the "£10M rated" man leave for about £4M which will be told to us as an "undisclosed fee"? If Wickham goes in the summer rather than January, one advantage will hopefully be that a new manager will be given the money to spend. Would anyone really trust Roy Keane to spend the Connor Wickham money?!

QWhen CW does leave , Arsenal would be my choice of club for him to develop at. Any of the other "big" clubs will never use him and he will languish in their reserves at best. I just wish the game (players ) were not so ££££ driven. CW has years ahead of him and he could easily stay at Town for another 3 years learning his trade and still be very young when that big money move came along. He would learn far more playing on a regular basis with us (he's been injured since summer pre season so thats why he essentially has played much in this , his "second season blues").

Am I the only one that doesnt see what all the fuss is about? Cant say cw has ever blown me away with his performances. Mmmm if he does ever get to the level people claim he will it's a fact he won't be wearing our kit! Pessimism over for now!

He should stay for a few years but old 'white flippers' is gonna get a big red car and hang around with the ressies of an established premiership club innit. As this new foreigner restriction rule is becoming more important for the big teams, we shouldn't let him go for less than £10m.

86 I agree. From my eyes wicham has not done anything for us. If we can get 10mil take It and buy a goalscorer, an old head like Kevin Phillips or James bestir.

We won't get £10m for Wickham. If we are lucky £3m + player deal of some kind and add-ons (first internatiional cap etc). The add ons didn't work with Bent. Just hope we can bring in a couple of Arsenal reserve youngsters (as permanent signings,-not loans!!!) Keane will have to deal carefully with Wickham. Fans are fed up of giving our players away for practically nothing. A good deal is essential on this one.

Which means we will probably get £500,000 for him and bring in Jack Midson as replacement (don't get me wrong Midson,-like you but can't understand why Keane keeps scouting you! Think you may be too defensive as a Striker for Town)

hopefully we get 15 million for Connor then we might be able to pay the wages of Fallon, because Keane loves Rorys style he gonna pay him real good !!
