Keane Leaves Town
Keane Leaves Town
Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 22:52

TWTD understands that Town manager Roy Keane has parted company with the club. The Blues boss has been under pressure with Town having dropped to 19th in the Championship despite a promising start to the season which saw them hit second.

Keane, whose contract was due to end in June, joined the Blues in April 2009 after Jim Magilton’s sacking and despite winning his first two games in charge at the end of the 2008/09 season never threatened to repeat his success at Sunderland.

The end looked to have been on the cards for some weeks now with Marcus Evans apparently unwilling to commit funds for transfers and Keane having exchanged angry words and gestures with fans after Monday’s 1-0 loss at home to Nottingham Forest.

Earlier today, Paddy Power stopped betting on the identity of Keane’s likely successor with former Wigan, Bradford, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby boss Paul Jewell’s odds having been cut from 20/1 to 6/5.

Former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton and ex-Charlton boss Alan Curbishley have both previously been linked with the Blues.

I never joined the debate about whether Keane should be sacked but I can now reveal that I actually like the man and I really wanted him to succeed. Alas, his team selections, match tactics and substitutions were all too often pretty bizarre, which ultimately led to too many defeats (albeit be were ratheer unlucky in some games) and thus his downfall. I was hoping that he would do a Bobby Robson, a couple of poor seasons before making his mark, but it wasn't to be. As for a successor? Please God not Paul Jewel (the man can hardly speak English!) and definitely not Fat Sam.

I dont think we as fans have been abusive, at the end of the day we support Ipswich Town FC and the badge on the shirt. A lot of fans had lost the faith and ability in Roy Keane.

Clegg should look at his own performance as well,; why has it taken so long to resolve the situation?

pity it did not work out for all concerned, so another victory for the chavs, let's hope the new manager can start with more than 50% not wanting him sacked within the first month.

I don't know how it can be a great day for the club!?! - sacking a manager (sad but needed to be done) - winning a trophy or getting promoted is a great day, lets get things into context here!

tractoroyno1, where you happy then ? 3pts off relegation when we should be in the play offs. You need to take stock mate, Mr Keane is a fantastic footballer but he never made a manager, 2 years of disapointment and crap football have come to an end, lets get back to what we did best and PLAY FOOTBALL.

Any chance of sacking Clegg too while we're at it?

The new manager needs to sort out:

a new right back.
a new left back.
a playmaker in midfield.
a new striker.

..whoever it is,he's got his work cut out trying to sort out the mess that Keano the clown's left behind.

I hope its Curbs, rather than Jewell - I would rather keep Keano like we kept Sir Bobby- what do Clegg and Evans Know about picking good managers !

Everyone is having a go a Roy Keane as if he is the only person responsible for the clubs predicament and decline. What about the spineless and thick players at the club who have shown no guts or fire and have beeen turned over regularly by inferior teams. And how about the fans whose only weekly entertainment is 90 mins of moaning with their middle aged, depressed and miserable friends on Saturdays. To get anyone to take over this shambles is going to take some convincing. And by the way what has Clegg done, ever? He should have done the decent thing and walked.

If Marcus Evans is after massive PR he should go for Ray Wilkins. With Chelseas in the cup on Sunday and butch at the helm for that game the publicity would be massive. Great coach, the reason Chelsea are now falling apart, although not sure if he'd be a good manager. I'd be optimistic if he was the choice.

Unfortunately rumours about Jewell seem very strong. Disappointing. Another Joe Royle - one of the most painful periods I've witnessed. I could see us going down under Jewell.

Keano was an exciting appointment but quickly showed he didn't have what it takes. Destroyed team spirit, poor signings (did he even watch them play before signing them?) and falling out with Walters after backing him as the epicentre of his new team shows how fickle he is. No player can give his best with that kind of erratic behaviour from his manager. Walters gave us everything, was voted Players Player and Fans Player of the Year but Keane humiliated him after one disagreement. If he does that to the players he rates I really feel for Counago, Garvan, etc. who were 100% Ipswich but were thrown away.

Unlucky Keano. Alot to learn about man management. Crossing my fingers for Wilkins, Hughton, Curbs, Southgate or O'Neill........please not Jewell....pleeease!

With Paulio Jewellio we'll be no better off in a years time.

By picking Paul Jewel, Ipswich fans will have 'the perfect storm'. An unpopular manager, a fight against relegation, no money for players and unlimited moaning for months.
