Clegg Dismisses Megson Claims
Clegg Dismisses Megson Claims
Wednesday, 12th Jan 2011 18:41

Chief executive Simon Clegg has dismissed newspaper reports claiming that the Blues had offered the manager's job to other candidates prior to Paul Jewell's appointment last Friday. A number of this morning's papers reported that Gary Megson had been Town’s first choice, while Doncaster boss Sean O’Driscoll has also been strongly linked.

Clegg says there is nothing is the claims: "I have seen one or two names being mentioned as being offered the manager's job and I can categorically state that was not the case.

"We don't normally comment on speculation but the reports that Paul was not our first choice are so wide of the mark that I felt on this occasion it was only right to comment.

"While Marcus and I spoke to more than one candidate, Paul was the only one that was offered the job as Ipswich Town manager. He was our first choice, our only choice. End of story."

Laughable - who in their right minds would have Megson as no. 1 choice? It just doesn't make any sense.

With all of this commentry from ME & SC, lets hope they keep it up. This is the sort of response we want. kill the rumour off before it blows out of proportion. maybe this is the start of something sensible from our owner and his right hand man. Communication

Clegg doesn't fill me with confidence and the Megson rumour wouldn't surprise me.We are all behind Jewell but i'm still undecided about Clegg.I still feel he should have gone with Keane and i still don't know what he really does.

we all knew it was PJ from the start, ludicrous to say megson had been offered the job, whoever wrote that was just trying to wind up ITFC fans!

I do have a feeling that Clegg is a bit man-in-the-middle. He's Evans' voice (and nobody really knows what he says and thinks) as well as an advisor on sporting issues. Some people say he only knows about the Olympics and nothing about football - then again how many owners, chairmen and chief executives are football people over businessmen? Sure, Sheepshanks was more blue-blooded as were the Cobbolds and John Kerr when he was chairman but times have moved on and at least we don't have a celebrity chef who drinks far too much red wine on match days!

i feel i have to say this, as i am a chef myself. deliah smith is not a celebraty chef! she is a celebraty COOK (and not a very good one at that) aimed at housewives who have notyhing better to do than kill time before the kids come home from school (and no i dont mean that as a sexist remark before anyone jumps on my back) she has never (to my knowalge) worked in a professianl kitchen or done anything to dersve being called "chef"
