Pompey Confirm Bids
Pompey Confirm Bids

Portsmouth chief executive David Lampitt has confirmed that his club have made offers for players during the transfer window with a move for Town skipper David Norris believed to have been amongst them. The 29-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer, is understood to have been the subject of a £250,000 bid which the Blues have rebuffed.

Lampitt refused to name his targets but said: “We've made offers for players in this transfer window. That's been difficult for us because we need people in now and the sooner, the better.

“We've made offers for more than one player and those discussions are ongoing but we haven't had an offer accepted.

“We're trying to get bargains where we can. If you're trying to get a bargain, you tend to get it towards the back end of the transfer window, rather than the front. Clubs will hold out to try for a better price.”

Questioned regarding Norris, manager Steve Cotterill was similarly loath to be drawn into naming names: “A central midfield player would probably fit into the team quite nicely. I would like three permanent signings and two loan signings, so there are five players I would like to bring in. But I would settle for four.”

If Norris does want to go why do we not try and get Michael Brown coming the other way .Pompey cannot afford to play him again due to his contract and he would add some much needed grit and experience into our midfield .

If we cant afford Norris's wage demands we wont afford Michael Browns either

Surco 72 - very good idea there, Michael Brown is a similar player to David Norris so would be a good swap deal!

Don't think you understand this do you lads? Pompey need players, a swap doesn't help them, they don't want to sell.

garv i think we're the only sane ones here. The amount of people talking about getting nugent and players of his calibre? for one thing, what makes you think he would want to move from a team on the verge of the play-offs, to us who are stuck nearer the bottom of the table? Plus nugent would be on a pretty heavy wage demand, which is a big risk to take on one player; hes not guaranteed to come here and play well. As for getting rid of norris, we wont get anywhere selling our best players. As some people are suggesting, i hope jewell dips into the league 1 transfer market and builds a team of players on a lower wage, but with a great team spirit. Blackpool comes to mind.

Garv a swap helps them if your giving them more than one player....
Fool
and it helps them even more by taking nugents wages which they cant afford off their books.

I'd say he's probably worth around £1 million - not quite the player I'd thought he'd be!

Michael Brown is not a similar player to David Norris,Brown is a defensive midfielder Norris is not!

The swap deal would make absoloute great sense and i 100% agree with Surco!!!

Simple this one, if we sold him for £250k, exactly what standard of player are we likely to see in return. Whilst we're on the subject, there's nothing to say his wage demands are in excess, it's just the offer thus far doesn't match the players self value! (likely to be less than his original deal, and thus not easy to accept a pay cut? maybe, I don't know)

Personally, I'd like to see him sign and stay on at PR.

I can't believe some of you are suggesting we should chase Nugent again!!, he turned us down how many times, I wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire, let him rot in Portsmouth.

you simply cannot start to disrupt a team at this key stage of the season by loosing our Captain, compared to many i have seen of late do the job he is very good at it. Ok we havent had the results but he wears the shirt with pride and i just hope we can match his expectations which i suspect like big Mac maybe on lenght of term rather than actual wage. Nugent NO he does not want to play with us so it would be for money only that he moved and we dont have too much of that to throw around.!! big fat no thankyou
