Cotterill Expects Further Norris Talks Later This Week
Cotterill Expects Further Norris Talks Later This Week

Portsmouth boss Steve Cotterill says he expects to continue talks aimed at taking Town skipper David Norris to Fratton Park later this week. The Blues are understood to have turned down a £250,000 offer for the midfielder but the Pompey manager claims the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of June, is likely to join his club in the summer if the move doesn't take place this month.

Cotterill said: “Maybe talks will resume towards the mid-to-latter part of this week. I am led to believe that might happen. I have spoken to his agent in the past couple of weeks.

“As it stands at this moment in time, maybe there is a deal to be done, maybe not. If not, I am pretty sure he will be coming to us in the summer. But he is happy to come.”

The Portsmouth boss continues to insist that news of Pompey’s interest in Norris wasn’t made public by his club: “The story didn't come out from us because it would have been of no benefit to us. We are slightly disappointed about that as we felt we have done everything through the right channels. But I spoke to Roy Keane about this so it shows how long it's gone on.”

Yesterday, Blues boss Paul Jewell said he was similarly "disappointed" that Cotterill was talking publicly about his move for Norris.

Jewell also said his captain hadn’t told him that he wants to move to Portsmouth and revealed that he plans to hold talks with both Norris and Gareth McAuley, whose deal is also up at the end of the season, later this week.

Don't understand this. Norris has repeatedly said he wants to stay, so why is Cotteril so confident he's joining Pompey? And why does he keep talking about it if it's 'of no benefit to him'??

I think McAuley and Norris will be offered improved deals in the next few weeks and they will sign

If Cotterill didn't leak it how comes he's the only guy to make comment on it publicly. He knows exactly what he's doing, trying to unsettle a player and try and make us to take peanuts for our captain.

ME & SC give Norris whatever Portsmouth offering him ...even if its just to teach Portsmouth some manners.

Cotteral has got to give the Pompey fans some hope, I guess Norris is a realistic target in his mind so that might keep them off his back. My son is in one of the Pompey development squads and was a mascot for them against QPR. Can't fault them for that as at least it was free (hint hint ITFC). However all we see in the Pompey news is fans will be pleased by new signing etc, seems like all talk to keep the fans happy. They can't even sort out their kit suppliers at the moment, I hear even they nearly went bust!

I agree with setting a deadline for the out-of-contract players to sign, as otherwise they can keep us holding on all the way to the summer when we will be competing against any clubs that can sign them for free immediately (rather than a six month wait like now). Really though, the deadline should always be a year before the contract expires. Norris should have been offered a deal last summer and if he didn't sign by say the end of July he should have been sold. We probably would have got £1M+ then compared to around £300K now. The same with McAuley, and let's not forget Delaney either.

If Norris decides his future truly lays at Pompey, then bigger fool him!

Don't really understand the thinking behind this. He's the 'Matt Holland' of the team and we need to get good players around him.

Norris says 'No'. That's the only talks Pompey will have with him.

Agent talk, stirring up trouble, aimed at getting as much of the slice as possible for the agent. I suspect Norris is out of the loop, so lets not get to hasty in stringing him up without knowing how he feels.

Some on here speak as if its a done deal and need to calm down. Gutter talk, no more at this tage, no less. Dont bite.

jewellintheTown some sensible reasoning at last! This smells of a rat big time. Norris has publicaly said he wants to stay at town on a number of occaisions recently, have you heard him mention Portsmouth? No its all a big game between Agents with Cotterill using it to make him look like he is at least targeting decent players, when he resigns for us Cotterill will aleady have some 'not my fault' reason up his sleeve to keep fans on his side!

If cotterill or whatever his name is, is still in charge of pompey when they come down here, he's gonna get slaughtered by the S. B.R.S. lower , with or without Norris in the side !!
COTTERILL, COTTERILL, SHUT YOUR MOUTH, COTTERILL SHUT YOUR MOUTH !!

Clegg seems to be in different to him staying or his contract would have been sorted out before he could speak to another club. 250k now or nothing in 5 months?
still its nice to see evans and clegg putting a team together for the premiership. ( or cutting the costs for div one????)

No smoke without fire. Fully expect Norris to leave - whether now or in the Summer. Agree with others - if as expected we lose tonight, then I would bet Norris will leave!

Why? because if his agent engineers a move, guess what he gets lots of lolly! Its what agents do to spike the earnings of their Clients and themselves!
