Bullard Set to Be Unveiled as Jewell's First Town Signing
Bullard Set to Be Unveiled as Jewell's First Town Signing
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2011 23:19

Hull City's Jimmy Bullard looks set to be unveiled as Paul Jewell's first Town signing on Thursday with the midfielder understood to have completed his loan switch to the Blues. TWTD was first to reveal that the 32-year-old was at Portman Road this morning for talks regarding his half-season spell which sees him reunited with Jewell, who was previously his boss at Wigan.

Sources at Hull City confirmed Town’s interest in the ex-West Ham, Peterborough and Fulham man earlier in the week with the Tigers desperate to off-loan Bullard’s £45,000-a-week wage. The one-time Gravesend and Northfleet player joined Hull from Fulham for £5 million during the Tigers’ stint in the Premier League and is contracted until 2013.

As with previous loan deals involving players on Premier League wages, such as last season’s recruitment of Daryl Murphy and David Healy, Town are likely to have agreed to pay only a proportion of the Londoner’s salary with reports in East Yorkshire suggesting the Blues will be paying only £10,000-a-week towards Bullard's salary.

Speaking after last night's game at Arsenal, chief executive Simon Clegg was typically taciturn regarding transfer speculation but told TWTD that the first deals of the transfer window were close: “I think that we are near on a couple of situations and I would expect people to be hearing some movement on what our intentions are over the next couple of days.”

Earlier in the week, Jewell revealed that the club had made two bids with Bullard and Luton's Andy Drury believed to be the players involved.

Bullard looks likely to make his Town debut when the Blues travel to Derby next Tuesday.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Leadbitter will be off. Weren't WBA after him?

I hope I'm right, Norris and Bullard in MF would be awesome!

Welcome to PR Jimmy.... your first mission is to make TP smile!

like the positivity but like katemoss says "Yawn",= Reality Check
we are in a relegation battle and are no longer in either of the cup competitions.
big mac, delaney and norris are going to leave on frees.
we have lost four or five first team players (townsend and colback were class) and we haven't replaced them
we are trying to sign an injury prone player (just take a look on the hull message boards if you don't believe me,they like him but hes become their darren anderton)
we are not in good form (we beat doncaster, but how many teams have we beat in the league in the last few weeks?)
we have had a problem with a good left back for years and no longer have a recognised right back
norwich are highly likely to get promoted this year and will be enjoying man utd, liverpool and chelsea at carrot road
=Reality check

We need something different in midfield. Remember in 1999 when Jim Magilton was signed on loan from Sheff Wed. I was at his debut against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. He transformed a static predictable midfield into a creative unit..lets hope Bullard can be 50% of the player for the club as Jim was. Its an eciting new era...lets grind out some results, get away from the bottom and enjoy the Jewell era

Great signing for the team and the dressing room with his cheeky chappy manner. Must have had a vigorous medical even to be thought of. I would imagine he replaces Kennedy sitting infront of the back 4 as a playmaker and saving his knees. And atlast someone who can hit a deadball. A couple more like him signed up please

Awesome signing for us. I hope Leadbitter and Chuck still say, this will put some much needed competition into training. We will then see who the real blues are

If he can take a t set-piece that actually goes where it's meant to I'd be happy. Not beating the first man is a schoolboy error and getting tedious from Leadbitter. Hopefully Bullard, although he acts like a schoolboy, won't make the same mistake(s)!

It will be great to see Jimmy Bullard at Portman Road. He has played against some of the best players in the world and has often been a match winner. He can hit a great shot from distance, can take a good corner (missing the 1st man!!), is a good freekick taker and a good man to have in the changing room.
All-in-all an ideal first signing. I wish him all the best in the next few months and if he plays well we should look to sign him for a longer period.
How long is his contract at Hull? I am assuming its until Summer 2012?

I love the sense of calm that prevails over this message board at the fact that we're likely to have to pay "only a proportion" of Bullard's 45k/week.

So, what sort of proportion will that be: 5%, 10%, 15%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 95% ?

I am sure Phil will put something up about this later but story about Jason Scotland in 3 papers/websites this morning.........

Pjisgod I suspect this is speculation driven up by the fact that shefti left swansea yesterday so lazy journalism but who knows. Not sure about Jason think maybe he will fit better in a Paul jewell attacking side? Can't see us letting go for any less than we paid for him but would mean two more needed up front. It refers to because we signed bulllard in that article which is crazy as two different positions unless of course we can only now afford one player!! Talking of the wage comment we have list a number of potential signings over wages so cannot honestly see we are paying a big cut of his wage even twenty per cent helps hull as they cannot afford to play him again due to some kind of million pound clause I suspect. Also he has family around London I hear so for him a much better prospect than celtic.

Great signing... Is he replacing anyone? Im not sure but i reckon bullard is a temporary fix until the summer... Also Nathan Tyson is out of contract in the summer and doesnt look like hes going to be offered a new deal... worth a try?

If all he does is take a good free-kick and corner I'll be happy. The number of times we're wasteful from set pieces is staggering.

Everyone seems to be writing off Norris or Leadbitter. I think that Healy will be the man to make way or leadbitter asked to do the holding role that Kennedy undetook against Arsenal

Great signing!

Exellent playmaker and full of banter!

He is worth every penny just to have around the club! Without doubt one of the best charecters in football with amazing banter!

To any doubters out there, he will soon become a crowd favourite mark my words.

Great signing if he can kick the ball in the net without falling over and hurting his knees.
