Jewell Confident of Making Signings
Jewell Confident of Making Signings
Friday, 28th Jan 2011 14:03

Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s hopeful that he can add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday. So far midfielder Jimmy Bullard is the Blues' only January signing, the 32-year-old joining on loan until the end of the season.

Jewell told the club site: "We're hopeful of doing something before the deadline. We're trying to help the squad and improve it.

"Players themselves are always looking for the squad to be strengthened and hopefully we can add to the options we have. I think the more options we've got, the happier everyone will be."

Town appear to have missed out on signing Swindon’s Charlie Austin, who has reportedly agreed to join Burnley, while Luton’s Andy Drury is a target with Coventry and Sheffield United also interested in the 27-year-old midfielder.

Legend -
Job one offers you £8k a week playing football
Job Two offers you £12k a week playing football
Where do YOU go ( remember- most players have agents for a reason - they play football so do not do sums that well - get it ) Agent Hmmm I get 30% of 8 or 12 difficult to work that out isnt it

Can't be much fun being Chief Exec/Chairman of Ipswich Town. The fans threw masses of flak at Sheepshanks, didn't rate Bowden during his time, now are reviling Clegg. They didn't give the fans everything instantly, so they are regarded as useless.

We are not a "fashionable" club, based in a large city, with big finances (no, Evans is not going to waste all his wealth on a football team. Neither would you, however fanatical a fan you claim to be. When was the last time you sold your car to go and see ITFC play?). We haven't been in the Premiership for the best part of a decade, neither have we dramatically climbed from the lower divisions. Ipswich are generally to be found lurking in the middle to lower reaches of the Championship. We have a fantastic history, but a very long time ago now. What would make us attractive to an ambitious young player on the up?

I'm encouraged that we're now being seriously considered as contenders for the services of the potential stars of tomorrow, or of quality players with much experience.

It's going to be a slow build back towards success, with no instant quick-fixes.

I have read alot on here and see alot of us have different opinion's on things. And as for CA yes i was gutted to see it all broke down and couldnt agree term with us. Yes it maybe SC or ME , But from seeing PJ coming in everything has clamed down with the players and we are slowly starting to play some decent football that we are all proud to see , especailly the gooners games and the donny game second half. Pj has only been in this job 2 wks and he has brougt to our attention CA o he def has a eye for a player, look at valencia at wigan i think he paid around 3 mil for him and man utd paid 16m. what i am trying to say is we need to get all our out of contract in summer players sorted and get playing some great football start climbing the league and new players will want to play for us . but we need to have them on our books i dont like the idea of loan players.

Brogan,s nose summed it up, we are a club with a rich tradition but precious little ambition, we keep saying it does'nt matter because we have a good squad, well I'm sorry but I must have been watching the wrong team the past few months, no pace or creativity and no goalscorers, prepared to pay a fortune to the likes of Lisbie, Counago, Martin, Priskin, Norris and Co, many of whom now they are at the end of their contract suddenly want to go elsewhere, the club is a shambles.

What a f**king miserable bunch you lot are today. With a bit more belief and some some time for PJ to get settled in with his playing style, the payers we have are good enough to get us up this league.

Cheer up!

tractaboy - of course you're right - THAT'S OBVIOUSLY WHY JEWELL IS 'TRYING' TO SIGN PLAYERS ................. because he doesn't need them.

i think jewell has identified that norris and leadbitter are too similar, and thats what he means by bullard bringing something different, ie more comfortable on the ball and better supply for attack.just a thought do the majority of town fans think norris has been a success as a centre mid,it is a crucial role for the team and we aint actually shined since hes been here, has he justified his £2 million tag when jim bought him,i know you cant question his commitment but i dont think we would miss his quality on the ball.i think we aint had a quality c mid since jim and i am personally excited by bullards loan signing.think it maybe time to stop bigging up our current crop of players so much as the league table does not lie,i do have confidence in jewell, fingers crossed!!

Can't see any reason to keep Norris. Overrated by the 15 year olds on this forum. Totally agree with tractorboy - calm the #%€£ down, Jewell has been here for two weeks for god's sake.....

i will have to reprimand you there ' this is a secular blogsite for town devotees not deeply religious types whether they follow Mohammed 'jesus christ or roy keane.the bluesky days will return if only we stick to the righteous path of pure unadulterated x rated football and none of that power in the sky mumbo jumbo ........ it doesn't get any better than this......concentrate your thirsts and revel in the newbluedays brought to you by a dodgy tax exile who pretends to live in some sunny islands where they grow bananas .may the gods if there were any bless the british tax system for making sure that the best and brightest will never have to pay their fair share..we pay homage to lady thatcher

Just read that Shay Given is prepared to drop down to the championship, if this isn't a plea for regular football I don't know what is, let's get him on loan......who knows what may happen?

Don't like to knock your confidence Paul but you have only been with the club a couple of weeks, it always happens this time of year its called getting all "clegged" up. Its a bit like propoganda, Marcus says get the fans excited and make them think we going to spend some money but leave it right to the last moment, we will blame those greedy agents and the transfer window will be closed.

Looking to PJ to pull the hat from the rabbit tomorrow, or otherwise - when asked to step up to the plate, FFS Cleggy, please prove us wrong.

Like Keane before him, I'm sure PJ can identify targets.
