Drury Most Likely Final Day Signing
Drury Most Likely Final Day Signing

Luton’s Andy Drury looks set to be unveiled as Paul Jewell’s first permanent Town signing before the January transfer window closes at 11pm tonight. The 27-year-old was spotted at the club on Friday and appears the most likely addition to Jewell’s squad today.

Talks between the clubs are understood to have continued throughout last week with news of the Blues’ interest in the midfielder first having broken a week ago on Saturday.

Drury is believed to have a clause in his contract which allows him to move on if Luton receive an offer of £150,000. Coventry and Sheffield United have also shown interest in the one-time Sittingbourne, Gravesend and Northfleet, Lewes and Stevenage man.

This morning’s newspapers continue to link Jason Scotland with a return to Swansea on loan, reports which are likely to have stemmed from Swans boss Brendan Rodgers’s comments last week in which he said he would be interested if the Trinidadian became available but was yet to make a move.

Portsmouth revealed their interest in Town skipper David Norris earlier in the window with the midfielder out of contract in the summer. Norris and Gareth McAuley, who both turned down Town's initial contract offer before Christmas, were due to speak to new manager Jewell regarding their futures at the end of last week.

Town were again linked with Preston centre-half Sean St Ledger over the weekend, while a striker would also appear to be on the Blues’ wish-list after missing out on Swindon’s Charlie Austin last week.

A right-back may also be in Jewell’s thoughts unless he has been sufficiently impressed with Carlos Edwards’s performances in the role he fulfils for Trinidad and played earlier in his career with Wrexham and Luton.

So far Jimmy Bullard's loan froom Hull is Town's only January addition, however there is unlikely to be any rush to make signings today with the Blues able to bring players in on loan from next week. Many Premier League clubs may not be willing to allow their players to move on until they have assessed where this window’s transfer business leaves them.

Meanwhile, Town have changed their policy on public access to training at Playford Road. Former boss Roy Keane allowed fans to watch all sessions but due to various concerns the club will now hold organised open sessions throughout the year, something initially introduced during Jim Magilton’s time as manager.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee David Healy has joined Rangers on a six-month deal after leaving Sunderland.

Suffolkpoker, you really think Newcastle would get rid of AMEOBI when they have already turned down bids this window? Anyways just wanted to say my best two signings today would be Norris and McCauly, think we have a strong squad some good strikers who have been missing the kind of killer passes that Bullard and maybe Drury can supply. We scored three against Doncaster so i dont think with renewed confidence, a more attacking style of play that goals will be an issue. come the summer there will be plenty of decent players going on a free transfer and Jewell will have had time to fully access what he needs to take this club forward, January is always a costly transfer window with many a panic buy/loan taking place..... Wasnt it Stern John last year, i rest my case

Wow - good to see some reason returning to the board - always to good various opinions but after the past 18 months with Keane out every week I was amazed to then see that had changed to Clegg out - people .. please , we are moving on with a manager who does just that MANAGE PEOPLE and has capable people around him . Midfield is where we have lacked any creativity and he is addressing that - spot on PJ .
Le Fondre be good but I think a RB would be a good addition but if we keep Centre Backs that is key - I think priority was CW contract and now address DD and GM

Wish people would not keep going on about Rhodes. The boy wanted to leave ITFC fact and would never in a month of Sundays come back here.

What aspirations our club has.... We want to get to the promised land of the premiership on an absolute shoe-string!
Surely if it was that easy every club would be doing it.. Instead every club around us spends and secures players and it takes us over a week to get a player from Luton (I do wish him every success by the way if he joins us) and whilst this is all going on we stand to lose 21 other players including Chuck and McAuley!
So we operate on a shoestring with a salary structure in place that seems to mean we miss out on quality players and yet... WE ARE ONE OF THE TOP FOUR MOST EXPENSIVE CLUBS TO WATCH IN THE COUNTRY!!! Come on... Something is wrong surely! In PJ I have faith - In Clegg and the board I have very little if any!
COYB's!!! Bloooooooooooo Army!

I am sure we have a good enough squad at the moment. Give Paul Jewell a bit more time to work with them and then it's onwards and upwards! Of course we could do with a bit more in some departments, but its' not the end of the world if there are no new faces before tomorrow.

The current squad is more than good enough for this league. They just need the confidence that hopefully Jewell will instill in them to play decent flowing football again.

I don't believe panic buys now will help. Let Jewell rebuild the squad in the summer when the price of players will be more realistic and he has a better idea of who he wants and who he doesn't want to keep.

Le fondra is 24 and has more League experience than Austin had with a good eye for goal. May struggle at first with the step up but under PJ I think he would develop and do the business for us. Priskin is a trier but not a proflific scorer and we are crying out for that. PJ has always had good goal scores at previous clubs and I think next season will see us with two strikers who get into double figures.

Best signings Norris McAuley only if they want to stay, once a player wants away very little you can do. Jorden Rhodes no more a gamble then Austen would have been as both proven in league below.

we must be one of the poorest clubs in the championship. Its clear to see ,we would strggle to attract any player other clubs want. Were simply swated aside, and muscled out of any decent signings.Saying that i will support any player in a blue shirt,as long as he gives his all!

Would rather we didn't sign anyone else in this window if it was a panic buy or just to keep us fans appeased .... Oh, of course, that was Keane !

PJ far more astute, i think .... I'm not too worried. Easy does it, and get the right players

I suspect Drury has been seen as Norris' replacement because he could potentially offer more than just an "engine".

If Town do allow the more senior players to go , it will be becuase Jewell ahs other targets in mind over the summer months. This in tern may also be why Clegg has not been in a rush to offer contracts to these players , allowing PJ time to assess and say if he wants to keep them or not.

In PJ we now have a manager that has extensivie knowledge and contacts witin the game - unlike either Magilton or Keane.

Im expecting a few more surpise (names) to sign for us in the summer. and the more expenisve contracted players to leave. All part of getting this Club back on a m,ore sound financial footing - which cant be bad. And no , we wont getrelegated as a result. If scum can be in top 6 with thier squad , we certainly can do likewise !

retroblue,
the norris audley saga was been going on many months before pj arrived. I am sure he was told to get on with what he has and lump it. Being out of work for two years he probaly has no choice.
No class players are coming to this club. All fans should accept we are an average championship side and that is where we are staying probaly for eternity.
