Jewell: Goals Main Area for Improvement Thursday, 24th Feb 2011 15:32
Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s generally happy with the way the Blues are playing but says there is one aspect of his team’s play which particularly needs to improve — scoring goals. Despite scoring six times against Doncaster a week ago, Town were unable to turn their overall superiority into goals against Hull City on Saturday and in the first half at QPR on Tuesday.
Jewell said: “We played a lot of good football [at QPR] and for a large part of the game we were the better team, but we’ve got to turn that domination, that possession into chances and goals.
“I’m pleased with lots of aspects but I’m aware we need to improve on lots of aspects as well. Even if we win a game 6-0, like we did last week, we’re always asking and looking for better. We’ll always be pleased but never satisfied.
“I’m pleased with the way we’re playing, but I’m not pleased about us not scoring goals to kill teams off.”
Although Jewell says it’s not only down to the frontmen to score goals, the Blues boss has already said that he’ll be looking to add a 25-goal-a-season striker to his squad in the summer.

Lightningboy - McLean looked terrible against us for Hull. Way out of his depth. Someone like Bill Sharp or Martin Paterson would be perfect alongside Wickham. Remember Jewell said he wants 442 next season so it will be someone to play off the shoulder of the last defender with the other one to hold up the ball (e.g Wickham)

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed just how many times per appearance Prisken is caught offside ! Can't be that hard to look along a line can it ?

The trouble is we will not spend the money to get the top players. Last summer Keane wasted months trying to land Chopra. Lets hope PJ will be backed with a suitable 'War Chest' but I doubt it. On plus note things feel much better at The Road in recent months, and long may it continue.

no kidding, had the club bought Chopra 18 or even 8 months ago, my 'namesake' would probably still be in a job, Town have needed a proper / regular goalscorer for years and until we do we will not get promoted

which is why i'd give murphy a run as part of 442 team. Neither scotland nor priskin have shown that they can play the holding role although scotland has taken his chances better. Since Fulop aims for wickham most of teh time perhpas the two youngsters should play and see how it goes now that we're safe in mid-table. But in the summer i'd go for Lambert rather than look at failed premier striker.
