Grant: Dyer at Town for a Month to Get Fit Friday, 11th Mar 2011 16:55
West Ham boss Avram Grant says Town loanee Kieron Dyer will return to Upton Park at the end of his one month spell at Portman Road. The Hammers manager sees the move very much as aimed at getting the 32-year-old fit for his side’s final few games of the season.
Grant said: “He is a very good player and hasn't played for the last month. Now he needs to play. He has gone to Ipswich. Everybody there knows him. He will stay there one month and then come back to us.
"If he was fit and was playing like at the beginning of the season, he would find a place in the team but unfortunately he had this injuries and he is trying very hard in the training.
"For him now it is important to play for one month and then come back to us.”

As I said on another thread - I always liked Dyer and my heart says I'm pleased to see him back. But Grants comments sum up what my head is saying. We have to be realistic ... Dyer has been sent here to gain match fitness ... i.e. he is NOT match fit. He is also injury prone. Also concerned re match-sharpness - just 33 appearances in 4 years. I wish him well, but really - considering we have nothing to play for - I don't see the sense of this signing. A striker yes, but a midfielder? Norris will be back in a couple of games and probably Bullard/Healy too. Best of luck to Dyer though - bound to get an excellent reception on Tuesday - IF he is fit to play.

''to get fit'' means he isnt fit. Lets hope he is up to Championship stuff, as has been said we dont really need to be breaking our neck [or bank] to get someone till summer now .

Ipswich Town is now seen by Premiership Managers as a suitable place to send players they want to get fit and back into their own first team. Good, shows we're playing to a suitable standard. Avram Grant doesn't strike me as an overly sentimental chap, so, despite the Ipswich connection, he wouldn't have agreed to the loan if he thought we weren't up to it. And again (as with Bullard) we see that Premiership quality is prepared to come to Portman Road.

I am pleased to see Dyer back and it could be a good signing IF the deal is cheap. I don't want us spending money now that would be better used in the summer. A one month loan deal to get a player fit usually would be unexciting (a la Zuiverloon) but Dyer is a quality player and hopefully can add something, especially with Norris being suspended.

Very often when players come back to clubs ,people expect to see same player that left, sadly it is often not the case and they fail to meet expectations .Tough game tomorrow we will need to be firing on all cylinders ,hope K D can shine .COYB .

dirtydingusmagee:- Agree. But looking at it from another angle. He could be warming Westham's bench, instead he has chosen to come here. My point is, I wonder if he has a point to prove to all and sundry, he could come out of the blocks on fire. Time will tell.
