Bullard: Wall Made My Decision
Bullard: Wall Made My Decision
Monday, 21st Mar 2011 09:02

Freekick expert Jimmy Bullard thought the positioning of Scunthorpe’s wall helped him to net his fourth goal for the Blues in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over the Iron. The 32-year-old curled home his goal in the 53rd minute to seal Town's win.

Bullard said: “The wall wasn’t great for them and I saw the keeper miles over that way, so I thought it had to go in the other corner.

“As soon as it left my foot it felt nice and it went in. As soon as the net rippled I couldn’t believe it! I’m still celebrating it now. It’s good scoring a goal and I had a lot of family up there today as well.”

The midfielder thought Carlos Edwards’s similarly excellent first half strike set the Blues on their way: “The first goal gave a bit of confidence for the boys. At home in the last three or four games we haven’t been great. We’ve played some good stuff but we just haven’t scored.

“That first goal from Carlos was a great goal and it lifted us, gave us confidence when we went in at half-time and in the end we coasted it really.”

The on-loan Hull City man was limping prior to the break but was suffering no ill effects after the match: “It wasn’t anything to with any of my old injuries, it was basically just a clatter, the top of my shin and the bottom of my knee. It wasn’t nice at the time but in a couple of minutes it was fine."

Bullard also dismissed suggestions that the Blues should have had a penalty when Lee Martin went to ground inside the box in the second half: “He dived I think! I was right behind him and I didn’t see him touch him, so I think he dived. I wouldn’t have booked him, just told him to get up and play on!”

I was sat in Churchmans right in line behind the free kick and could see the wall was way far off to the left, especially for a right-footer of Bullards calibre. As soon at it left his boot we knew it was in.

Anyone else think that all of the Scunny players looked like Stuart Baggs from The Apprentice?
