Murray Nets Winner for Torquay
Murray Nets Winner for Torquay

Town striker Ronan Murray netted the first goal of his loan spell at Torquay as the Gulls beat Cheltenham 2-1 at Plainmoor this evening. The Irishman slotted home what proved to be the winning goal with 20 minutes remaining as he made his third start for the club he is with until the end of the season.

Murray, 19, now joins up with the Republic of Ireland U21s ahead of Friday’s friendly in Portugal, along with Town team-mates Shane O’Connor and Ian McLoughlin, who is currently on loan at Stockport.

Defender Tommy Smith missed out on his loan club Colchester‘s 1-0 home victory over Oldham as he is already away with New Zealand for their friendly in China. The All Whites have pulled out of a planned game in Japan.

From the BBC match report "Murray sealed the win with a clinical finish from close range". Isn't that what we need at Portman Road? Hope he scores loads and comes back full of confidence.

Still a little confused as to why the "best finisher at the club" is out on loan to Torquay while we struggle so badly to put the ball in the net game after game...

I prefer this guy to to Wickham, Murray can actually finish! its what we've been missing, although him up front with wickham would be an awesome partnership

Souper jim no way would Murray have been able to play the one up front role ATM. However would be worth recalling and playing him and wickham upfront in a 4-4-2
