Jewell: Town Talking to Hull About Bullard
Jewell: Town Talking to Hull About Bullard
Tuesday, 5th Apr 2011 13:02

Boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues are talking to Hull City regarding the possibility of loan midfielder Jimmy Bullard returning to Portman Road next season. The 32-year-old, who has been in Suffolk since January, has another two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium.

Jewell said: "We are speaking to Hull to see what the situation is. It's a difficult deal financially obviously but if we possibly can make it work, we are interested in trying to do so."

Bullard has repeatedly said that he has enjoyed his time on loan with the Blues and would be interested in remaining at Portman Road beyond the end of the season with money far from his only consideration.

Hull are keen to see the one-time England call-up move on with his salary currently 21% of their wage bill.

The Tigers would probably look to try to come to a mutual agreement with Bullard regarding the remaining two years of his contract with the fee payable by the Blues — or any other interested party — going towards this pay-off.

Town are unlikely to pay the former Fulham, Wigan, Peterborough and West Ham man more than around 40% of his current terms, something which Bullard is likely to be well aware of.

Alternatively, a further loan could be negotiated, the Blues having paid a proportion of Bullard’s wages during his time at Portman Road this season, although it’s likely that both clubs and the player would prefer to come to a more permanent arrangement.

Bullard has made a huge impact since joining the Blues on a half-season loan, scoring four goals in 11 starts and creating more with his dangerous set pieces.

Excellent! If we are going to get him signed up permanently, get it done as soon (and sensibly) as possible. I can't help but feel that the longer Town drag things like this through, the more the hope fades away. But we need players at this football club who genuinely love to wear the shirt and play with smiles on their faces, he ticks the boxes. Just hope Clegg doesn't do what Clegg has become renound for doing with contract terms...

fourth: I believe there is some kind of clause in his current Hull contract that activates some kind of further extortionate increase in wages/ transfer fee to Fulham if he makes any more appearances for them on top of the 21% of their current wage bill he makes up (Hull really thought the whole financial package for the deal through, in short).

If its at all possible, please sign him up.

Bontcho - It was included in this interview where the BBC Radio Suffolk guy was asking him about the contract situation of just about every player in our squad.

We want to hear news about players signing on the dotted line. not just about this player and that player being offered contracts. Come on Mr Evans we need at least 2 strikers and to keep Norris and Bullard to stand any kind of chance next season give Paul Jewell who I think is a good manager the backing he needs. We wants some good news before the date for the season ticket cut of date is a upon us.

We should definitely go for Bullard. I know the situation around his wages and requirements makes the potential deal difficult but we have to do our best to get him in. Bullard and players like him can only help us go up! There is no other way. So we should concentrate on not losing him... whether it is on Clegg or Evans, everything possible must be done to get him!!! And then at least a couple others like him one of them a striker! And we havegood chances!

As long as we dont break the bank for him this would be great signing. The bloke is class and would rather see us sign him than Dyer.
