Delaney Signs New Deal
Delaney Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 20th Apr 2011 09:10

Central defender Damien Delaney has signed his new contract with the Blues. The Irishman has put pen to paper on a two-year deal which could extend to three depending on appearances in the second season.

Delaney told the club site: "I'm obviously delighted that everything is done and dusted now with the contract and I'm looking forward to spending at least two more years here and helping the club reach the Premier League.

"I came here to win promotion and that's the aim. I believe we can do it and I wouldn't have signed a new deal unless I felt that.

"There is a lot of optimism about the place and the results have shown that recently.

"There are too many positives, too much optimism to walk away from Ipswich Town.

"I tend to follow my gut instinct and everything was telling me to stay here and be part of a club that is moving forward."

stiffshorts - are you crazy!? Delaney and Mcauley are arguably the best centre half partnership in the entire league and have kept us in a lot of games with their outstanding last ditch defending. Without fail he always puts his body on the line for the team and you can see how distraught he was after his mistake against Forest the other night. You can see his passion and desire to succeed in this team recently which we may not have seen under Roy Keane but that just goes to show what impact Paul Jewell has had on this Football Club.

Few more contracts tied up before tomorrow evening and I will be very confident. COYB

Very good news. Now for McAuley and hopefully Norris. Hopefully the club will learn from this next season and beyond. Get the deals signed early!

Just hope that McAuley signs up now because without him beside Damien he's not the same player. They come as a pair.

This is all Clegg's fault! McAuley will be signing next, if he's not careful ...

Jas0999 :- Having nearly gotten their fingers burnt this time around [ provided all the players sign ], I can't see the club letting this situation arise again. It was a situation that nearly went sideways and may in the end cost the club more money than it needed to spend on the contracts.
Guthrum :- Like it !
DD signing has cheered up my decorating easter no end. If the others sign up, I'll paint the other egg as well !
