Town Eye Hearts Midfielder

TWTD understands that Town have been eyeing Hearts defensive midfielder Eggert Jónsson. The Icelandic international can also play at centre-half and at right-back.

Jónsson has been watched by the Blues on a number of times this season with Town boss Paul Jewell recently confirming that he has been looking at the Scottish market.

The 22-year-old ball-winner joined Hearts from Icelandic side KF Fjardabyggdar in July 2005, having made his senior debut as a 15-year-old, and broke into the Edinburgh club’s first team in the 2006/07 season.

Last season the Reykjavik-born player, who is contracted to his club until 2012, was named the Hearts Player of the Year in 2010.

Jónsson, 6ft 2in tall, has won eight full international caps, in addition to making appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

Meanwhile, former Blue Tommy Miller has been released by Sheffield Wednesday, while ex-academy defender Lee Beevers is leaving Colchester with his deal also up.

I'm liking the kind of players PJ is being linked with !!! These are the types of players he brought in at Wigan, then jelled the into a good passing football team (aswell as winning promotion to the prem)

Sounds like he'd be a great attention, young but give us some much needed bite in midfield, and that defensive minded guy that PJ's looking for. All speculation though, so let's keep grounded!

There are some good little players in the Scottish League- Charlie Adam was one of them I believe-look where he is now, so their are some good players up in Scottyland and all the ones that we have been linked with impress me, just hope their is some truth in them and not just hot air.

A ball winner in midfield is something we have clearly lacked of late!
With leadbitter and Norris playing, winning headers was near enough impossible!
This bloke would also potentially give leadbitter more of a free license.
But this is all speculation at the moment, only time will tell!

116 leagues appearances with 7 goals for Hearts, and before that 5 goals in 22 games in Iceland, a Player of the Year award, 8 international caps and he is only 22-years-old. YES PLEASE!!

If we are signing this guy, and perhaps Coppinger... Wouldn't it be a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation?

TractorCam - That's what I've always thought. Jewell says he wants a defensive midfielder, someone to protect back four and break play up, surely you can't play 4-4-2 with a player like that in the team. I know the season has only just finished, but can't wait to see some signings......!

Saw his tackle at the weekend [ you'll pardon the expression ] and he did everything but bite his opponents bum. It was hard to say the least !

There are some handy players up here, but I agree that the standard of most of the SPL is below that of the Championship. I was at Aberdeen v Hibs a few weeks ago and it was awful, but then again we haven't exactly been served up with many footballing treats at PR recently either.
In terms of playing bigger games, they're probably more experienced from the SPL having played against the Old Firm, that's more like a cup game for a League One team and they happen four times a season.

i think jewell from his recent comments will be sticking with the 433/451 formation for next season. most teams in this league use it but he will want a 442 option if needed the likes of coppinger can play just behind the lone striker.

I see that Wikipedia are now showing James Coppinger as an Ipswich player.

NottsBlue, what exactly do you think we would gain by Leadbitter having a free license?

Sounds like a decent player. Attack minded players also required.

Well leadbitter is a class player i think he would play well in the premiership as he did with sunderland, but this season he has not beenable to express himself greatly, playing with a ordinary midfielder Captain David Norris didnt help. a new defensive midfielder would free him up more and hopefully he will play as he did in his first season here.

Find Leadbitter our most frustrating player. Think he could be very good. Hope we keep hold of him and give jewell a whole season with him and see what happens. If he is poor again then i will concede defeat!
