Town are one of a number of clubs reported to be interested in MK Dons right-back Danny Woodards. The 27-year-old is out of contract having rejected a new deal at stadium:mk with the Blues, Bristol City, Doncaster Rovers and Sheffield United all believed to be monitoring his situation.

Woodards, 5ft 9in tall, started his career with Chelsea, moving on to Exeter in 2005 without having made a senior appearance at Stamford Bridge, having also been on trial at Wycombe Wanderers.

After a year and a half with the Grecians, the Londoner joined Crewe Alexandra for a fee of £30,000.

Having allowed his contract at Gresty Road to run down, Woodards joined the MK Dons in the summer of 2009 on a free transfer and since then has made 72 starts and seven sub appearances, scoring one goal.

An England C team player during his time with Exeter in the Blue Square Bet Premier, Woodards has also operated at centre-half, right midfield and central midfield in addition to his preferred right-back role.

Why would we want to sign him as a back up. He is a regular right back in a side that finished high up in Division One, sign him up as a first choice right back. Then move Edwards forward!

I thought their left back looked good, dead ball specialist and skipper, well worth a punt.

is that the 73rd or the 74th one we've been linked with?

Anyone signed yet?

Good age, good experience, versatile - Surely worth a punt on a free?

Joe Devera of Barnet is in more or less the same boat. One of the top defenders in League 2 (regardless of where Barnet finished) and available on a free. Sign the two of them. That should see our right back position well covered without any expensive fees paid, freeing up resources to be used on our other problem areas...

ps Thx ITFCdaprem

We now know he can play well for 2 seconds - far longer than most of the current squad!

Depend on the purpose of signing him. Have seen him play a few times and have to say I have been less than impressed. As a back up/replacement for Eastman - maybe. As a direct replacement for Premier League bound, NI International captain, McAuley - absolutely not. Nowhere near as good.

I know it's early days and I really believe Jewelly can do a job for us, but already we are being linked with countless players and again we are being outbid or not even in with a shout in the first place. Bottom line is, forget about needed strengthening elsewhere throughout the side, unless we get a 20+ goalscorer for next season, we will finish outside the top 6 again, which even though I see it could be 2 seasons before we go up, would be disappointing!

can all these clueless nobends who say
"gott a be worth a try at that sort of money" keep their opinions to themselves, they clearly know nothing about the player and just read an rticle and think
"he sounds good, let's go for it"
leave it to the professionals
or make an informed contribution, eh?

Unfortunately I do not believe we have been linked with one realistic target yet. Everyone is either destined for the prem, or another club with more money or credibility, As interesting as it is to get me on this site daily, until the man holds aloft a town shirt at portman road I cannot bring myself to get excited.

RK said it was difficult to get players to come here, and I have to agree with him. I think there is something very rotten at ITFC, and I have to look to ME & Clegg as the reason. Two quality players have left because their contracts were left to run out. I do not think even PJ could convince some players to come here because there just does not seem to be something right at this club, and I cannot put my finger on it.

I will not panic yet, but I do not expect us to have come the new season new players on the books that we wanted, not even second choices if I am honest, but maybe third choices and disappointed fans.
