Sunderland Enter Westwood Race
Sunderland Enter Westwood Race
Wednesday, 25th May 2011 08:57

Town’s chances of signing out-of-contract Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood appear increasingly slim with Sunderland reported to have joined the race for the Irish international’s signature.

The Blues already faced reported competition from Everton, Leicester City and Celtic, and Steve Bruce is now said to have begun talks with the 26-year-old. Current Black Cats keeper Craig Gordon has undergone knee surgery and is out for the first three months of the season.

Aston Villa are also now claimed to be eyeing the former Carlisle man, who seems certain to be leaving the Ricoh Arena this summer.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos has said he wants to stay with his current loan club Racing Santander. Spurs are happy to allow the Mexican international to leave but the La Liga side might struggle to pay the £6 million fee agreed as part of the terms of his loan.

Well said Legend, one of the most accurate views expressed on here for ages. We need to get away from this buying success and working on two year plans and get back to nurturing our own youth and picking up looked over gems from below and building on that. This generation of players now nothing of our heritage and if they do care very little and quite frankly why should they. We can't keep living on history and a day dream past trying to convince ourselves that we are better and more desirable than what we actually are. Plus i'm sick of seeing overpaid journeymen who don't give a monkeys.

Failing that ME needs to throw shed loads of money at promotion.

Legend.... Fail

Your not a realist your a pesimist my friend

If all of those clubs you mention offered a player the same terms, only WHU, Leeds and Birmingham would beat us to a signature.

Think Westwood would be better off at a Championship club, look at Sinclair and taarabt, they stayed in the Championship and are better off for it because they get 90mins a game. It's a shame that most players seem to count the pennies before counting the minutes. Would be No.1 at Town for years, but I won't hold my breath.

Take note my fellow town fans at our budgie rivals up the A140. They have got it right for 2 seasons running & believe me, they will comfortably survive the rigours of the premier league. The blueprint for success is staring us all in the face, & though it pains me to say it, it may be some time before we can be top dog in Anglia again. We need to sign hungry players who have a great team & work ethic & only then can we compete for promotion. Mr Jewell is the man i believe can help achieve this. Forget the big names cause they are unlikely to happen.

Tractorbigblue - look at the form under PJ we would be flirting with the play offs even with the shocking bank holiday results. if we invest 5mil Wisely I.e a goal scorer even 15+ we will be flirting with the play offs.

Whoppit - clearly you have never run a website let alone a "news site". The value of a visitor is very low, as we are all waiting on the latest scoop. Twtd hardly ranks for "money terms".
Running a news site + community is a labour of love. I have ran a news site (in gambling) it's hard work

Phil and your team are doing a sterling job... Keep it up!
