Cardiff Accept Town Offer for Chopra
Cardiff Accept Town Offer for Chopra
Thursday, 9th Jun 2011 08:24

Cardiff have accepted a £1.5 million offer from Town for striker Michael Chopra, according to reports in Wales. The Blues made an initial £1 million bid which was rejected before returning with an increased offer in recent days.

Chopra, Cardiff’s highest paid player last season, now looks set to hold talks with the Town management regarding personal terms.

As is their usual policy, the club are remaining tight-lipped regarding the situation, although it seems likely the Welsh reports are true and that a deal could be completed in the days to come.

The 27-year-old was one of ex-Town boss Keane’s main targets last summer, having played for him at Sunderland, but then the club weren’t prepared to pay the Bluebirds' asking price of around £4 million.

The Newcastle-born frontman scored 11 goals in 28 starts and 11 sub appearances during 2010/11 despite being in and out of the Cardiff side due to injuries.

Fingers crossed this is true. However, "Cardiff's highest paid player last season" means it wouldn't surprise me if he couldn't agree personal terms with us...

Come on lets get him in! Slightly worried about the 'Cardiff's highest earner' part... I'm thinking Clegg won't offer him what he wants and there goes our big chance!

Key paragraph "Chopra, Cardiff's highest paid player last season, now looks set to hold talks with the Town management regarding personal terms." - so doubt if it will happen! Hope I am wrong.

Would be a good signing, and for a relative bargain price as well.

he was in the premier when cardiff signed him so they would of had to pay him well but i would imagine he knows he wont get as much signing from one championship team to another.

Clegg: Hello Mr Chopra I hear youhave spoken to Paul and you want to sign for us, Club policy dictates that we can only offer you 15k per week and a two year deal.

Chopra: On your bike Mr Clegg.

Meeting over.

Do some people have to keep being reminded that ME owns the club and it is he who decides what we pay for a player and what his terms are, not Clegg.

Oh please Clueless Clegg, don't cock this one up like you did with the Austin transfer in January

Clegg is under a lot of pressure to get this one otherwise he will get a right kicking from the fans.

A real bargain at 1.5m considering we got quoted 4m last summer, let's hope his wages wilnt be a prob, but surely the club know what he is on at Cardiff otherwise why try sign a player we know financially we can't afford. If he signs this shows the ambition of the club to other potential signings. COYB

clegg never messed austin deal up he was always going to burnley.
clegg can only offer what m.e. allows him to offer so people who love to blame clegg for everything get real.

Cardiff highest earner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How much were they paying for Belamey the report was 35k of his 85k wage
Means Coppra must be on 40k a week
or are they talking about players who belong to them not loans,
If that is the case he would be on around 10-15k which is reported to be the average wage in the Championship by some papers

Gazelle you are totally wrong. ME will issue an operating budget which Clegg he has to perform too. Within this budget every thing has to be accounted for including signing on fees, agent fees, wages and NI etc. It is down to Clegg the manage this. Stick to the day job my friend.

@Gazelle - couldn't agree more! Clegg is merely the hired public face of ME and has no control over wage structure policy and a lot people still need to relaise that
The key question should be does Chops fancy working with PJ at Ipswich?
Unlike Austin who didn't......

Personally I'm pleased to see reports of potential incoming rather than meaningless "linked with" stories

Still very optomistic regarding 2011/12 season - as with the last 30 years to be fair - and refuse to be dragged down by the pesamistic self proclaimed realists who only come on here to whinge and moan

hope we able to sign him, would be a good acquisition. really cant believe how many times some people have to be told this, but it isnt clegg who offers the players anything, thats me's decision. clegg is just the messenger. sp, if he should reject the move then, as they say, dont shoot the messenger.

Evans pulls Clegg's strings. Clegg, in turn, takes all the flak from an invisible master. It's hard to know where the line is drawn between the two of them. However the 'assumption' that every deal will collapse on personal terms is needlessly negative.

Cardiff didn't pay all of Bellamy's wages if any, that's why Chopra was Cardiff's highest earner. They mean players that Cardifff had to pay themselves.

byebyesheepshanks added 09:13 - Jun 9
They'll use the difference between the £1.5m & the £4m they would have had to pay last year to make up a signing on fee, bonus structure etc which will keep the wages in line with club limits. £4m + his wages was impossible. £1.5m & his wages prob looks cheap for a quality striker.

Hopefully the club will get this transfer done THIS time. Not only is Chops the type of player that we are looking for and have been for the last 5 years but the knock on affect from his signature to others signing could be the key to our summer business.

Still can't believe people think the major stakeholder and owner makes these decisions. Why would employ chief executives, MD's, FD's and operations Directors etc etc.

Clegg I suggest you have a good look at the budget, scenario test it, map it, plan it and don't let yourself, ME and more importantley us fans down.

If you do I'll await ME's call!
