Clegg Wants Swans Embargo
Clegg Wants Swans Embargo
Friday, 24th Jun 2011 18:33

Town have called on the Premier League to slap a transfer embargo on Swansea City for their failure to pay cash due from Tamás Priskin's loan at the end of the season.

The Swans are understood to be refusing to pay wages and the £160,000 bonus owed to the Blues relating to their promotion via the play-offs, made up of £20,000 for making the top six, £40,000 for winning their semi-final and £100,000 for victory in the final.

Chief executive Simon Clegg said: "I am hugely disappointed that a legally binding agreement reached in good faith by both clubs as part of Swansea's final push for promotion is now being disputed.

"I am genuinely delighted for Swansea City and their fans but the attempted re-negotiation and deliberate misinterpretation of agreed terms by their chairman is not fitting for a club which has just secured the ultimate prize in Championship football and with it a £90 million windfall.

"Tamás arrived in Swansea fit and became injured whilst under their care. That's football, but contracts have to be honoured and I have absolutely no interest in re-negotiating the agreement.

"As a result of Swansea refusing to pay our invoices, I have reported them to the Premier League, sought an immediate transfer embargo and am now seeking full payment of all outstanding sums with the agreed contractual interest rate of 5% above base."

Priskin joined the Swans at the end of March but made only four substitute appearances, scoring one goal, before picking up a knee injury.

And so you should Mr Clegg. Maybe it has been brewing behind the scenes and going public will force Swansea into paying.

Well it seems clearcut and should be taken to court after giving reasonable notice, which would be about 14 days.

There should have been a jointly signed agreement on Tamas' physical condition at the time of loan. I would rather assume there was, wasn't there Mr Clegg?

I just saw this, the main headline on the BBC football site! It seems we negotiated a very good deal with Swansea if it included a £160K promotion bonus. I wonder what the loan fee was? I thought Priskin would only cost about £500K to buy outright, if that!

Regardless of how you rate Clegg with transfer dealings etc, the one thing he is no doubt good at is contracts. I bet they are water-tight! Therefore, good on him for taking action against Swansea!

I have to say, this is slightly embarrassing. Probably contractually correct, but still embarrassing. Surely this could be sorted without going public.

Well done Cleggy...assuming that we have all of the relevant facts. A deal is a deal.

They're now Premiership, so think they can now treat those below them like dirt. Embarrassing??? Yes for them, other clubs will now be weary of dealing with them, didn't they also want to take Scotland on loan yet expect us to foot his wages?? They're Chairman sounds a right tool to me.

If we have a water tight case why are we pursuing this through the Premier League rather than the courts? Swansea obviously see a loophole otherwise they would pay up. I suspect a compromise will be reached.
