Squad Back at Playford Road for Pre-Season
Squad Back at Playford Road for Pre-Season
Friday, 1st Jul 2011 14:13

Town's players were back at Playford Road for the start of pre-season training this morning and TWTD's camera captured the moment.

The entire squad - with the exception of defender Damien Delaney who has been given until next Tuesday to rest after international commitments with the Republic of Ireland this summer and Luciano Civelli who is still in Argentina - were put through their paces by manager Paul Jewell, his assistant Chris Hutchings, coach Sean McCarthy, fitness coach Antonio Gomez and new keeper-coach Malcolm Webster.

Released midfielder Alan Quinn also joined the squad as the Irishman is yet to find a new club, his 2010/11 having been destroyed by a groin injury.

The session provided one or two hints regarding the Blues' squad numbers for the season ahead with new signing Aaron Cresswell wearing the number three, Michael Chopra 10, Ívar Ingimarsson Gareth McAuley's old number four and Nathan Ellington 18. That saw Shane O'Connor move to 33 and Jason Scotland to Jimmy Bullard's number 14.

Town's first pre-season friendly is in Holland against FC Eindhoven on Tuesday 12th July. The Blues' pre-season fixtures can be found here.

Appears I may have been wrong when stating on the forum numbers in training mean nothing :S Kennedy and many others have the same numbers they had last year with the only changes being when a new player has take their number e.g. Scotland, Maybe Jewell has as much OCD as I do and is making them train in the number they play in, good consistency ;)

Can anyone see Leadbitter in the crowd, or did he fail to turn up? (Some may say he failed to turn up for the whole of last season) Was he there, just hiding behind some of the "bigger" squad members, Phil?

In the last pic Edwards looks stiff already after riding his bike to Playford.

I have a source who works at a local Tooks who has indeed confirmed Scotland is a complete lardarse.
Apparnetly 3 cinamon whirls and a couple of homemade cheesesticks are his favourites!
Cresswell looks like Zammo (pre heroin addiction) from the popular 80's programme Grange Hill.

Maybe if we signed Grant Holt, he could eat Scotland who ate Ledbitter who was suspected of eating all of Scotland's delicious award winning pies??

Great to see jewel having targets and getting them in, non of the panic buys a week into the season...!! Sounds promising with a good future ahead, league one to champ shouldnt prove to hard if he has got the skills and mind set. As for players on free or cheap, Norwich didn't spend a fortune last year and look where it got them, its about the right combination of players and means we have the money to purchase one or two match winners, who knows maybe bullard is signing next week!
