Bowyer Signing Confirmed Sunday, 10th Jul 2011 21:40
Town have confirmed the signing of Lee Bowyer on a one-year deal with the option of a second season. On Wednesday, TWTD reported that the midfielder would join the Blues on his return from his holiday ahead of this week's pre-season games in Holland.
Having put pen to paper on his contract, the former Birmingham, Charlton, Leeds, West Ham and Newcastle man will now meet up with the rest of the squad, who flew to their Eindhoven training camp this morning.
Bowyer says he's pleased to be joining Town: "There was interest from other clubs but Ipswich is the right choice for me.
"I know all about the traditions of the club and the history after working with Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle. I know it's a family club but having met the manager, I know it's also an ambitious one and that's very important for me.
"Everything I heard from the manager was very positive. He wants to get Ipswich back in the Premier League and I'm looking forward to playing my part in trying to make that happen."
Blues manager Paul Jewell added: "We're obviously delighted to have signed a player of Lee's quality.
"Anyone who has seen Lee play over the years knows he is a winner and he will bring that winning mentality into our dressing room."
News of Town's interest in the 34-year-old one-time England international first broke last Saturday with Leeds, Derby and unnamed Premier League clubs also believed to have shown interest in the controversial 5ft 9in tall Londoner. The Blues have also hinted that there could be further transfer news on Monday.
Elsewhere, former Town loanee Gianni Zuiverloon has completed his move to La Liga side Real Mallorca.

Welcome aboard, Lee We all know you're the type of player who's up for kicking the opposition's nuts off during a game - just make sure you hang around after the game to help them look for them if you want to win over a few more Town fans

Are these the days, losing Sir Bobby was the darkest day for all us true fans.

@are_these_the_days....... you are an absolute muppet my friend. you clearly got dropped at birth if you think signing Lee Bowyer is worse than going into administration (for example) on another note. spose this puts the stoppers on any move for kieron dyer.

bluepeter - of course I agree with you about Sir Bobby but losing him at some stage was an inevitability. As a true fan of some 40 years I would rather see us playing attractive football in league 2 than gain promotion through thuggery

Welcome Lee! he has been a good player and his drive will hopefully be good for the Town, so am prepared to ignore his previous off-field things

that just about sums up my position also......... chepstowblue added 08:26 - Jul 11 I must admit im uncomfortable with the signing. For the past decade ive wanted to put my foot thru the screen whenever i saw him and hav regularly said"i wouldnt want someone like that at my club" to west ham &nwcstle fans. Im not holier than thou, nor am i two faced and fickle and will support the shirt whilst trying to forget whos wearing it.

Daleyitfc;- As Sir Bobby signed him for Newcastle, then following your logic, Sir Bobby is a racist too? I can understand your reservations about him signing for Town and your anti-racist stance is commendable but your comments directed at other fans are over the top. I must admit his signing doesn't sit too comfortably with me but i do feel that he will be a very good adittion to the team and is the type of player we have been lacking for years.

excellent signing and just what we need. some people on here would do well to think before they post stupid comments accusing all of us who support this of being racists. It's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. There is something called forgiveness but surely you only have to forgive if the person did wrong in the first place..? think about it... we should be happy that a PLAYER like bowyer wants to come here to ITFC and PLAY for us.

Fantastic signing, more please!

Get in! Real steel, drive and goals (Brum fans said he was awesome last season in the Prem). Now for Koumas on a free to add that defence splitting pass to the midfield. Would love Bullard too but won't be expecting it. Then for a top centre back and a striker. Billy Sharp or Diomansa Kamara (think hes free) and then Meite (WBA on free last time I looked) or even Thomas Cruise the Arsenal youngster on a free, heard alot of good things about him.

Good signing IMO and I couldn't give a monkeys if some of you Morons think i am a racist our country is drowning in political correct Bulls**t led by Bigots who would be the first to moan when someone unsavoury moves in next door.

Moaners, do one!!! A nice family club, times have moved on and we need hard, passionate players like Bowyer or we'll fall further away from ever making a Prem return. Then you'll be moaning about players laking passion and determination and how we'll never win anything. Remember he was aquitted and it's dangerours to make such allegations that are untrue! Amounts to a libelous allegation. If he's good enough for Sir Bobby he's good enough for me!!! COYB!!!

With regards to the supposition that signing Lee Bowyer probably precludes the signing of Dyer...OH NO!!! You mean a 32 year old, has-been, injury-riddled, ineffectual, wildy overpaid, obnoxious pr*ck won't be joining us? Oh, that's a real shame. 1999 was a long time ago, my friends. It's a brand new century. Shall we move on?

Yess we shall I hope they Don't announce the new player about 2.30ish when on london tube. We got way better team than last year.

can't believe people are moaning! bobby robson signed him all after he was CLEARED of and wrong in the court case. if people want to stay away as this signing breaks the traditions of a "family club" then they should think about many players past a present who have done wrong. Notably more recently, carlos edwards double conviction for speeding, david norris and that celebration, and their have many players in a town who have down wrong in the past! so as long as the player does the stuff on the pitch and helps us push for promotion then let him be. welcome lee and all the best
