Jackett: Town Bid Laughably Low
Jackett: Town Bid Laughably Low
Thursday, 21st Jul 2011 14:21

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett says Town’s valuation of Lions midfielder James Henry was so low that it caused his chairman to laugh. On Tuesday, Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that Town had had the second of two offers for the 22-year-old turned down.

Jackett, who feels that selling any of his first teamers would destabilise his squad, told Southwark News: "Ipswich's valuation was very, very low. My chairman was laughing when he heard it."

Millwall are understood to rate the former Reading man in the £2.5 million bracket, while the Blues are likely to have offered at most somewhere around £1 million below that figure.

Having had the second bid turned down, Jewell said the Blues are unlikely to make another offer: ”They’ve told us he’s not for sale. That’s probably dead that one, so we’re looking elsewhere.”

Good. I'd be more worried if they accepted our first offer.

Laughably low? £2.5M is laughably high. Anyway, laughs are in short supply at Millwall, so i'm glad we cheared up their day

Please ban Whoppit.

As for the story. 2.5m seems a bit high. Can't remember him playing against us. Obviously didn't impress.

Thats fighting talk from Jackett!!
2.5 Million was a fair offer i thought.

And yes i agree, please ban that fool Whoopsie or whatever his stupid name is!
He is most probably a sad lonely little man who sits in his one bed flat all day and night spanking the monkey!

If Millwall don't need to sell, then they are in the driving seat really. On balance, I think it's better we don't just throw money at anything that moves - Who would want to be a Man. City? - but perhaps here we could up the bid slightly if the figures given above are reasonably accurate. Mainly though, I get wearied by all this so-called transfer manoeuvring of which "the laughing chairman" is just another manifestation.

Whilst I think that James Henry would be a good addition to our squad Millwall's valuation at 2.5 million does seem a bit steep.

Like everybody else I'd like us to be signing players but I don't want it to be at any cost just because other clubs think they can hold us to ransom after we sold Wickham. Throwing our money around like crazy did us no good when we qualified for Europe and started signing players like Sereni etc.

I'm glad to see that PJ is targeting some good players and there's no way that every attempt of any club to sign a player will work. Let's just keep the faith and whilst we all hope to have new signings in by the start of the season we should all be fully backing the entire team whoever players for us this year & any other for that matter. Constant moaning and negativity from fans will do us no good at all.

Whilst on the subject of negativity whoppit does sound a lot like Ipswich Elvis and their comments last summer which were just repetitive and dull.

Come on Phil, please do us all a favour and ban Whoppit. I'm the 8th person out of 15 posts to complain about him, so I'm in the majority.

Trouble is that as soon as teams think u have money they inflate their players valuation. BTW the best way to get back at whoppit is to ignore him.

So maybe this is why Jewell cant get in the players he has as his targets, becuase Agent Clegg bids at such a laughably low level.

Sharp...Coppinger......St Ledger ?...Tracey ?

If he is in their first team, they don't need the money and he hasn't asked for a transfer, then Millwall are in the driving seat.

The same as we were with Wickham, not looking to sell but would if the price was right.

If PJ does really want him, then we have to pay the asking price.

As for Whoppit, in the interest of freedom of speech, he has as much right to post on here as anyone. If you banned him he would only return in another guise anyway. He only posts here to get a reaction. IGNORE HIM and he will get bored and go away.

Sadly PJ has shot himself in the foot by a) announcing we expect the first offer to be rejected and b) announcing the first offer is always low.

Offering such low fees for players is pointless. Anyone can submit an offer - my local team could put in a low offer for Rooney - knowing it will be rejected. ITFC soon need to start competing for players as apart from Chopra we have been unable to agree fees all Summer.

PJ please pay what a player is worth otherwise we will get no one.
