Clegg: Town Weighing Up Offer
Clegg: Town Weighing Up Offer
Wednesday, 10th Aug 2011 16:26

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has revealed that the club are weighing up a bid received for an unnamed player. The Blues chief also says there is still money for manager Paul Jewell to spend on more new additions this summer.

Clegg told TWTD that the bid has been made but no more than that: “There is an offer for one player at the moment but I’m not going to go any further. Will it lead to anything? I don’t know. It may do, it may not.”

Jewell is keen to continue to add to his squad with Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews a loan target and another right-sided central defender top of the list.

The chief executive says Marcus Evans will continue to give the Blues boss cash with each deal taken on its own merits rather than the club having a strict budget: “We’re not working to a particular budget. The owner has made it clear that he will back the manager.

“I think the manager has been incredibly savvy in terms of the players that he has brought in and I have no doubt that we will reap the rewards for that.

“If he feels that he needs to bring in more players, and he certainly does, then he knows that he enjoys the support of the owner and myself in that regard.”

Clegg is pleased with the club’s seven signings so far with Jewell taking a greater role in the negotiations than his predecessor Roy Keane: “I think we’ve done some good business this summer. Paul is very hands on in the club’s transfer dealings.

“It was always a three-person approach but I think the dynamics have changed slightly. I’m comfortable with that and between us we’re doing good business, we’re just doing it slightly differently than we were in the past.”

Jewell has clearly impressed Clegg since he took over after Keane’s sacking in January: “Paul’s a class act. We knew that when we appointed him. He’s one of only a handful of managers to get two clubs promoted to the Premier League.

“I think he’s doing a fantastic job. He’s a got a really good spirit up there at Playford Road. He’s got a really good coaching staff around him and is an incredibly impressive individual, who calls it very straight. What you see is what you get with Paul, and I like that.

“He made it clear in the interview that he wants to be involved across the board in all aspects of the club.

“We’re delighted with the appointment, it’s been really positive for the football club. He’s led us to some really good business and I’m confident in terms of what he can do with the football club to take us to where we want to go.”

lol at the Chopra comments, there is no way it's him.

The only 'first teamer' it's likely to be is Leadbitter who i would be gutted to see leave unless we got in Bullard AND Andrews to partner Bowyer. Even then it would be a shame. He has time on his side and i rate him highly. Realistically it will be one of the fringe players like Scotland, Priskin etc. The only consideration will be the fee. If someone has offered £150k for Priskin it's clearly not a 'no brainer'.

If we sell any of our regular starters or youngsters like Carson then it will show a real lack of intent.

Hopefully Priskin is finally going away... I think PJ just doesn't like Hungarians:) Jokes aside I would be happy to see Priskin go but only if we add somebody to the striking force.
If it s Scotland I will not be glad - he is a good striker for this level and can gel with the new guys in that department.
If it is Leadbitter - again I don't like the idea. Not because I think he is a great player but just because we don't have a replacement for him.
Can't believe it is Carson or Chopra. If somebody from the PM wanted Chopra he should have been long gone before even we discussed the conditions with Cardiff.

It's likely to be Priskin. He wasn't even on the bench last night for the cup match because there are probably on going negotiations and they don't want to cup tie him as it will bring his value right down!

Priskin is away playing for Hungary so could'nt play last night, lets all hope it is him but to be truthful we would be looking for 500K I reckon, 150K is too low.

Oh of course. My bad.
In that case, wouldn't be surprised if it was Scotland.

I'm guessing Leadbitter, because I doubt they would have to weigh up an offer for Priskin or Scotland.

PJ would probably pack their bags personally

I can't imagine anyone really wanting Priskin or Scotland, so it has to be for one of our better players. It could be Leadbitter. Can't be Chopra, they wouldn't even consider an offer for him so soon after signing him. Also big vote of confidence in Jewell - he'll therefore probably get the sack in the morning!

Scotland or Priskin? If so, we must replace as sadly IMO Ellington was a poor signing.

We may have signed 7 players but few were actually fees which we were able to agree on. I hope there is more money to spend, because for me we need:

1 x Keeper
1 x RB
2 x CB
1 x Creative midfielder
1 x Striker (if we sell a striker)

lets hope it for priskin or scotland if not reject it !

id be massively p*ssed off if we sell ANY of our main players including leadbitter ! , theres no point in selling . we should be looking to strenghten , lets get andrews in on loan then sign a CB and then try and get another cb/rb on loan from the premiership !

"the club are weighing up a bid received for an unnamed player"

I didn't know we HAD any unnamed players. No wonder they can't tell us who it is!

If it was Chopra we'd be looking for a new manager i'd guess too.

priskin is the most likely in my eyes, but if it is leadbitter then PJ should definitely think very carefully about it.... got one year left, if he's not in PJ's long term plans then he should sell him now to make a profit, otherwise he needs to be signed to a longer contract.... however now that bullard is released from his massive contract, getting rid of leadbitter wouldn't be disasterous if we can get bullard in to replace him... that's a big upgrade in my opinion?!
