Clegg: Town Weighing Up Offer
Clegg: Town Weighing Up Offer
Wednesday, 10th Aug 2011 16:26

Town chief executive Simon Clegg has revealed that the club are weighing up a bid received for an unnamed player. The Blues chief also says there is still money for manager Paul Jewell to spend on more new additions this summer.

Clegg told TWTD that the bid has been made but no more than that: “There is an offer for one player at the moment but I’m not going to go any further. Will it lead to anything? I don’t know. It may do, it may not.”

Jewell is keen to continue to add to his squad with Blackburn midfielder Keith Andrews a loan target and another right-sided central defender top of the list.

The chief executive says Marcus Evans will continue to give the Blues boss cash with each deal taken on its own merits rather than the club having a strict budget: “We’re not working to a particular budget. The owner has made it clear that he will back the manager.

“I think the manager has been incredibly savvy in terms of the players that he has brought in and I have no doubt that we will reap the rewards for that.

“If he feels that he needs to bring in more players, and he certainly does, then he knows that he enjoys the support of the owner and myself in that regard.”

Clegg is pleased with the club’s seven signings so far with Jewell taking a greater role in the negotiations than his predecessor Roy Keane: “I think we’ve done some good business this summer. Paul is very hands on in the club’s transfer dealings.

“It was always a three-person approach but I think the dynamics have changed slightly. I’m comfortable with that and between us we’re doing good business, we’re just doing it slightly differently than we were in the past.”

Jewell has clearly impressed Clegg since he took over after Keane’s sacking in January: “Paul’s a class act. We knew that when we appointed him. He’s one of only a handful of managers to get two clubs promoted to the Premier League.

“I think he’s doing a fantastic job. He’s a got a really good spirit up there at Playford Road. He’s got a really good coaching staff around him and is an incredibly impressive individual, who calls it very straight. What you see is what you get with Paul, and I like that.

“He made it clear in the interview that he wants to be involved across the board in all aspects of the club.

“We’re delighted with the appointment, it’s been really positive for the football club. He’s led us to some really good business and I’m confident in terms of what he can do with the football club to take us to where we want to go.”

Who said it was the first bid?
Hopefully Priskin. He is like a dressmaking postman whose run out of petrol... silky skills but no delivery.

It's one of our key players for sure, otherwise Clegg would mention it. Afraid it's Leadbitter. If so, get some good money for him and bring Jimmy in.

Are people retarded?? Chopra or any signing we signed this summer are officially not allowed to move twice in one transfer window!! If you think about for a minute then you will realise how stupid that is if a player could move twice in one window... because a transfer would never really be a transfer til the window would close which would be stupid!! lol Think about ur comments before you make them!!!

Sorry , but Im a bit confused here. Are WE oputting in an offer for a player ...or have Town had an offer sent in for one of our players ?

If its the latter , I wouldnt be surpised if its Lee Martin ,. they way he's playing right !

Hopefully Leadbitter, then replace him with Bullard with Andrews as the holding playing add Bowyer to that and we have a cracking midfield!

boys
bullard is not coming here..
In the pecking order we are way down low.
eternal shame but
qpr norwich and the outer mongolian 200th 11 are higher up the order.
When your on 40k a week money is nothing,
when your sacked its everything.

I would wager a decent sum it is Priskin. I guess the only consideration is how much we try to get back of the near 2 million we wasted on a player, who has skill, but is as powderpuff as they come. I reckon Swansea again, if so we need payment in advance!

If it was for Priskin for Scotland, what is there to weigh up? ;-) It makes me wonder whether it could be Leadbitter, who after all the club wouldn't want to leave for free next summer (but then I thought that about Fulop!).

ironic smile followed by shaking of the head. Pointless article and statement from Clegg followed by 4 pages of drivel from posters speculating who it is. jog on.

I heard from my mates aunties cousins half brother, that a man in the street told him that his sisters nephew reckons its our tea lady (I think she was playing centre back last night from our score line). No wonder Cleggs not sure about that - makes a great cuppa from what I've heard but a bit pants in defense.

If it is lee martin, fee needs to be 2 mill at least. We paid a lot for him. And if we get that, we need to see it all re invested, unlike the wickham money which has gone to marcus to cover expenses for next year.

Can't believe about 2 out of 70 comments have guessed Lee Martin, one of our best players in pre season. REJECT.

Jas0999, have you watched Ellington play? He's probably played about 2 and a half full games added up I reckon. I thought he was lively last night, got pace and holds the ball up superbly. An inch taller, quicker, fitter, slimmer version of Scotland. Just another poor attempt of a jab at Jewell.
