Shotton Not On
Shotton Not On

Town boss Paul Jewell appears to have played down the Blues’ chances of signing Stoke defender Ryan Shotton. Town and Burnley were reported to have made £1 million offers for the 22-year-old at the end of last week but the central defender or right-back was involved in the Potters’ squad for their weekend Premier League game against Chelsea.

While not confirming the identity of the player, Jewell appeared to indicate that Shotton was the man and that a deal is now unlikely: "On Thursday we spoke to the player and the club, and I see Sunday he was in the squad in the Premier League. He came on, so it's probably not [happening] now."

Shotton, who has also been linked with Derby, came on as an 86th minute sub during the 0-0 draw at the Britannia Stadium.

Another unsuccessful attempt to sign a player, getting a bit frustrating now. Im not blaming PJ at all though. Perhaps have to wait until after the premier league announce their squads? Or maybe it's time to move onto lower league players? as our defence needs strengthening!

Shame, just what we need. Awesome long throw would have been a bonus 2

Obviously looking for quality players but may now need to look for good to average as there are glaring gaps in the squad. Needs to be asap as other teams will soon learn to exploit these weaknesses.

I can see us getting 1CB on a permanent deal and one on a loan after the 31st August transfer deadline. When players know they arent playing it is a different story.

It is frustrating, and costing us points! Saturday evening we could be on 9 points or 3, so it is very important that we can defend in the next two games. Smith is not impressing, and Delaney looked worse than him Saturday! At least Cresswell is looking decent.

dont really know enough about him to say wether it is a terribly bad thing that we might have missed out on him , but watched the highlights lastnight and what a throw, now that would be a weapon.

86th minute sub? I bet that was just to draw attention to him to increase the chance of other offers being tabled. Wouldnt give up just yet mr J.

'Stearman wasnt in wolves squad weekend'

Thanks for that cressi. I wondered who it was that got booked on 21 mins for Wolves and was then subbed after 49 mins - Stearman, so not Stearman then. That's cleared that up.

Stoke might not need him once Upson is match fit and IF ( a big if) Woodgate can retain fitness.

Shotton notton - move on! I think it will be more a case of him "wanting to stay and fight for a place." I think this one is dead in the water. I'll be happy if I'm wrong.

Laughable reading about how good Clegg is - someone is clearly failing. Two loans, lots of frees and just two fees agreed all Summer (Cresswell going to tribunal). Not good enough Mr. Clegg and Mr. Evans. Oh and PJ, you have to sort the CB position out now! And a back-up keeper, striker, replacements for Bullard and possibly Leadbitter. All three have to do better.

Reading BBC sport report on shotton seems we still need half a team. Good job seasons not started and we are three months from transfer window end.
What a mess!

Dear Sir, please may I live in the world occupied by Jas0999 where every customer I speak to is happy to buy from me, every supplier I negotiate with agrees to my price and every employee I want to work for me happily agrees the terms I put on the table no matter of financial limitations or job location. Thanks.

Doesnt have to be perminent, expensive or premier league. But a young centre back with promise. Wasnt that long ago smith was playing brilliant so now hes getting games he should improve as well. Ivar is great but seems crocked

Hong kong bluey

It's the same world that Aguero occupies when he said where do Manchester City play, Old Trafford ?......you pay them enough they will come!

If we are that financially hamstrung be honest and stop talking about ambition it costs money.

This story seems to suggest he'll be off to Burnley.
