Jewell: Offer in to Premier League Club
Jewell: Offer in to Premier League Club
Tuesday, 23rd Aug 2011 11:02

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues have made an offer for a Premier League defender. The Blues boss says the bid is for a potential permanent signing and not a loanee with Aston Villa’s Shane Lowry reported to have been watched in reserves action last night with a view to a loan move.

Jewell, who is desperate to add to his backline ahead of Saturday’s home game against Leeds, said: "We've been trying to get in more defenders since the end of last season. We've made enquiry after enquiry and it's been very frustrating but you have to be patient.

"An offer has gone in for a player last night. It's a new target and I'm waiting for his manager to get back to me this morning.

"It's an offer for a centre-half who plays for a Premier League club. It is dependent on them but I am hopeful."

Jewell also has further targets: “We are definitely a couple of centre-backs short, maybe we need someone to push Carlos at right-back, we need another midfielder and a forward thinking player too, whether that be a wide player or someone who can play through the middle.

“I’m aware we need to strengthen more than anybody, I see the players every day, but the key thing is that we are not wasteful with our money."

Icelandic veteran Ívar Ingimarsson will miss Saturday’s game with his thigh injury, while Tommy Smith is suspended for one match for his red card at Peterborough.

Come on Jewell sort it out! This simply isn't good enough!! We are currently the laughing stock of the Championship and are desperate to get some defensive cover. At this rate we will get totally embarrassed again at Portman Road on Saturday.

The club should be renamed.

The present set-up has nothing to do with ITFC. From shifty owner, through incompetent management to dysfunctional playing staff (don't call them a team), the whole caboodle is an insult to the good name of Ipswich.

Move them a few miles up the road and call them Diss United Football Club.

not the answer, we need an experienced right footed centre back to organize the back line

This is pathetic. One win and we're in the Premiership and then two bad defeats and we're in League 1. What's the matter with some people, purchasing a top footballer is a bit different from going out and buying a tin of baked beans.

Jewell knows we need defenders [ read above story and others ] as we all know, please stop stating the bleedin' obvious and wait and see who is possibly coming in before slagging him off. He will get the right guys in, if not forced into a panick buy ! Been there, done that and it didn't work.

When is someone going to stand up and admit that it was their fault that we let McCauley go?
Loyal fans, spending their hard-earned cash, have a right to know who got us in this position.
Mr Clegg - I'm waiting......

i believe Zuiverloon went to Mallorca....if thats who you mean itfc4daprem...and he was a fullback but would still be better a CB than what we have currently!

No difference between beans and footballers. Good thought.

How about a tin of Heinz best at centre-half? Or maybe a Fridge Pack?

Far cheaper and they create a lot less stink than the ******* ***** bought so far by the Scouse Git..

I think we need to remember here that for the last 4-5 seasons we have really struggled to make an impact in this league, we have had scores of overpayed average players......(Norris, Leadbitter,Edwards,Quinn,Delaney,Smith,Fulop,Priskin,Scotland) and a manager in Keane who despite his success as a player couldn't motivate the players he had bought in.....the last 2 games have been horrific and nobody knows that more then PJ, but we have to remember that this summer was about completely rebuilding the team rather then throwing money at it like Keane did. At least with PJ we are made aware of the players he is after and know that he is looking to fix the problems we have. Quality defenders are hard to come by and its not PJs fault that GMac left, Upson,Ferdinand,Woodgate were the exact players we all said we wanted ITFC to go after on this very site at the start of the summer! credit to him for going after them, i have faith he will come good in his search for a quality CB and I would rather suffer a few crappy results then have another 2 seasons of just chucking money at positions and getting nowhere......calling for his head already is pathetic.......Cresswell, Chopra, JET, Stockdale, Bowyer, Andrews are great players for thsi club and we should be getting behind the club and the manager and not quitting 4 games into the season.....theres 43 games left.........COYB

Club stooges write in here to tell us all the Scouse Git is rebuilding. A club stooge is someone who works for the Invisible Man.

Can a club stooge please explain how buying a 34 year old racist constitutes rebuilding? Maybe he's 35. Don't know. Don't care.

@Blueboy This is real life not CM or FM, you can't instantly buy players. He just said he has a bid in and he is also looking at a loan. We have to wait on the other clubs and players. As for laughingstock do you care what other teams think of us? Then your an idiot, the last thing I worry about is that because I am confident we'll have the last laugh. Maybe I have been around too long, over 40 years supporting Ipswich, and have seen this all before. Two games does not make a season so chill, PJ is working it.

One thing I disagree with PJ on. We don't need a RB to push Carlos we need a RB to replace him. I like Carlos but a RB he is not.

Some fans on here are a bloody disgrace! Instead of putting your energy into witless negative comments trying turning up at the matches and showing some encouragement to the team. I know it's hard when the teams at a low point like this but show some grit the team isn't and try to help them out of it by cheering them on, or would you wrather just sit there at half time miserable sulking on your iPhone bitching on the Twtd.

I hope this defender has got some experience, I can't imagine seeing another youngster who is coming in who is similar to Smith. I honestly think that he should play Ainsley instead of Edwards, Edwards simply cannot defend, Ainsley is a solid young defender who made some excellent tackles in the Northampton game. Maybe someone like Wheater, or Beye from Villa on loan, they would certainly get in the squad
