Sonko Deal Done Friday, 26th Aug 2011 12:02
Town have confirmed the signing of central defender Ibrahima Sonko on a one-year deal. The Blues have been waiting on the completion of paperwork before formally announcing the signing of the free agent Senegalese international, who joined Paul Jewell's squad on trial on Monday.
Former Reading and Stoke man Sonko seems certain to make his Town debut when the Blues take on Leeds at Portman Road on Saturday. Fellow new signings Jimmy Bullard and Daryl Murphy will also be involved against the Whites.
Sonko, Town’s first ever Senegalese player, has been given the number 31 shirt, Bullard the 21 and Murphy 27.

Absolutely Chris_ITFC. The bar is so low at the moment, Geoff Boycott's mother-in-law would be better than we've already got

victorywillhappen: There didn't seem to be much communication last week when all of the defenders were native English speakers (Cresswell excepted).

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No its the bloke who will hopefully sort out our defense.

A much needed addition to the defence, which I think still needs more work as Delaney looks poor and Edwards seems much happier going forward then defending. Sonko sounds just what we need, a good, strong defender with experience but not too old. Getting him on a free transfer seems a good bit of business, let's hope he does well and his 1-year contract gets extended!

@cornishnick, "Geoff Boycott's mother-in-law would be better than we've already got". Is her name Ian Marshall?

Chris_ITFC added 12:07 - Aug 26 http://www.ibrahimasonko.com/flash.html .......his website is a bit flashy! I'm not sure he'll fit in in Ipswich. Most people have only just got the tinterweb in Suffolk and most one use it to read Farmers Weekly Online!

Quite pleased with this one! Loving all PJ's comments (in previous stories) about him being a machine!

Just seen Sonko's website... a) he loves himself and is a legend in the making b) he has clearly had a summer placement with the X Factor team!

pleased with the 3 signings in last couple of days, get shotton, collins, sula and skruna as well and we will have a squad capable of competing. not hopeful of getting too much out of game tomorrow but season definatly starts again for us away at blackpool. 2 weeks break to get players fit, wont be too many going away on international duty hopefully enough time to get players to know each other at training to begin the fight for at least top 10 finish this season. when everyone is fit stockdale edwards ingy sonko cresswell bowyer andrews bullard murphy jet chopra good 11 who should be able to compete against any team in this league on our day. i dont mind losing games as long as effort is there and 100% commitment in the cause. still 42 games to go 126 points up for grabs. lets get behind the boys COYB

Watched him a lot at Reading. Plus points: - Tremendous leap and will win everything in the air - Quick into the tackle - Very fit, Coppelll used to describe him as a "tremendous physical specimen" Minus points - Can't play a creative ball. With a bit of luck he will pass it to the teammate closest to him. - Gives away too many penalties, especially with savvy prem forwards who love going over on those long legs of his.
