Jol Wants to Keep Stockdale
Jol Wants to Keep Stockdale
Friday, 28th Oct 2011 09:11

Fulham boss Martin Jol says on-loan Town keeper David Stockdale is firmly in his future plans at Craven Cottage. Earlier in the week the 26-year-old hinted that he might fancy staying on at Portman Road beyond his season-long loan.

But Jol says he very much sees the England squad regular, who signed a Fulham contract taking him up to 2015 in July, as 39-year-old Mark Schwarzer’s successor: “He's part of our plans, but [at the moment] I've got another great goalkeeper who's one of the best.

“He's our player. We identified him and took him, so hopefully everybody's happy in the future.”

Speaking a month ago, Town boss Paul Jewell played down the chances of the Blues recruiting Stockdale on a permanent basis: “We’re watching lots of goalkeepers and we’re trying to line up a keeper for next season because I know that Fulham won’t sell David Stockdale.

“We’re trying to line up a young one who will hopefully take us forward in the next few years."

Shame. When he said he'd be happy to stay at town I thought it could be a case of give Fulham what they want for him but this now looks unlikely.

Though who is to say that Jol will be there at the end of the season, or indeed Fulham even in the Premiership. Who knows if, just if, we managed to get promoted then maybe Fulham might be interested in selling if they got relegated!

Stockdale's comments on this indicated that there is a possibility of getting him IF we get promoted. I think we can pretty much rule it out otherwise.

Wouldn't worry yet, there's still time for us to be a league above fulham come next season. Poop, fan = stocksale, Ipswich. Ambitious yes, but if I was being a pessimist you would moan more

Jol is just saying that to boost up the inevitable sale price. If anything this confirms to me he'll be our keeper.

cant see us getting him for under 1.5 million

1.5 million? nearer 5 million plus I should think.

I think the moving talk was a tacticle move by Stockdale to nudge Fulham, he has no intention of coming here.

If Fulham don't start picking up points they could find themselves getting relegated and having to take what they can for players to reduce their wage bill!

The 24-hour recall clause is a constant worry. We won't know until this afternoon if he can play tomorrow. If they recall him at 16:00 today, can he play the first half for us at Millwall? :-)
