Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Monday, 28th Nov 2011 17:33

Keeper Richard Wright is out of Town's match at Burnley tomorrow having picked up a knock, joining David Stockdale on the sidelines. Arran Lee-Barrett will come into the starting line-up with Cody Cropper on the bench.

Wright appears to have been one of a number of players manager Paul Jewell said had been suffering with a niggle in the wake of Saturday's home defeat to Reading, the former England man's third debut for the Blues.

The 34-year-old has had little luck with injuries in recent months with both his two appearances for former club Sheffield United last season cut short by a knee problem which required surgery in the summer.

Lee-Barrett will be making his first league appearance since April, although he did play in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton earlier in the season.

Speaking earlier today, manager Paul Jewell said Lee-Barrett was understandably disappointed when overlooked in favour of Wright at the weekend: “I had a chat with him on Friday. He wasn’t happy about it and I didn’t expect him to he happy about it, but it’s up to Arran to get in to the team, as simple as that.

“He was disappointed. He hasn’t played a lot of football, neither has Richard, but I just felt that Richard has been outstanding in training, and that’s what I said to Arran.

“Arran’s obviously hugely disappointed but that’s my decision. I don’t pick a team on sentiment, I pick a team on what I see Monday to Friday or what I feel might be right and that’s what I felt was right on Saturday.”

With Stockdale still out with his shoulder injury, Lee-Barrett now has the chance to show his manager he was wrong not to look to him at the weekend.

Stockdale tweeted that he hopes to be back in action at Playford Road this week and sent a message of support to his latest understudy: "Hoping to do some more training this week, so back soon. Sure Arron will show his doubters wrong! Good luck ALB!"

Cropper, an 18-year-old US U20 international, was previously on the bench for the Northampton match in the Carling Cup but is yet to make his first team debut.

Meanwhile, Burnley have announced that there will be a minute's applause prior to tomorrow's game in tribute to Gary Speed.

Sadly football is full of shortermism these days, everybody wants to win now and sadly it's rarely possible. What do people want? Jewell sacked and a new guy bought in? You've got to give him time. Atleast 2 years and longer if there are signs

When your in the brown stuff your really in there.
When you have most of your squad over 30 they are prone to more injuries simple as that. Are team is like a second hand car that doesn't run well.
Where the heck has our Ipswich gone?

It seems that being over 30 means playing half a season.
At best

ALB was our back up until a few days ago so where is the problem, in this case Wrighty picked up a knock but still played so obviously put the club first, if ALB thinks he should be in well now is his chance, its up to him to take it.

Richard Wright getting injured is JEWELL'S fault, Sonko getting injured is Jewell's fault, the tax system is Jewell's fault, unemployment is Jewell's fault! Sack him and put him in the tower of London!

Don't want to support Ipswich anymore, not because we lose matches, because I don't want to sit next to some of the people on here at Portman road!

jas, you better have replied to my post which nullifies your 'statistics'.

How about we judge ALB after the game and not before it?

ALB here is your big opportunity . You did well when you first played for us so we know that you can do it. Smart move by PJ to be sure that we had 3 experienced goalies...Cody can do well too if called upon.

Good start for Mr Wright hey ? - !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark - yet again - 'give Jewell time' - how many more times are we going to hear this nonsense ? - before we disappear into total oblivion.

Total mismanaged SHAMBLES is this Club.

What we need is some more over 35 year old experienced players to replace the currently injured ones...

I am amazed at some of these comments.
Those to blame for where we are are:-
Evans
Clegg
Jewell
NO ONE ELSE.
still they need a bit more time to put this club back to where it was before any of them arrived.

Just when I was getting used again to wrighty flapping at crosses and dodgy kicking he gets injured again,oh no so disapointed!!!NOT!!feel sorry for alb, people got short memories on here,he came in last season for fulop and done ok all bar couple of games(ok naarwich!!!),give the guy a break.with our current team even joe hart would struggle to keep a clean sheet!

Good Luck ALB for tomorrow night - at least you'll have the bo##ocks to give it your best shot. Can't be knocked for that.
Sincerely hope you play a blinder - although you'd still be dropped when it suits - but then you'll already know that.

I can't believe what I am reading lately on this site.. I really hope all u PJ haters get a good dose of humble pie, come end of the season. As that famous Chinese/American proverb says.... Keep The Faith (Bon Jovi) :-) . Anyway best of luck at Burnley lads... ALB Nows your chance 2 prove yourself. My prediction 5-1 to the Town. And yes, b4 u ask.. I am slightly mad.

Some people on here would be better off supporting Man united or someone. The amount people that moan at pretty much anything. What i have noticed is that when we win, there's hardly any comments made on here, but when we lose, there's loads of posts made. Show's what some of our "fans" are like.....

fickle.

Garv its good to know someone else feels the same way...

Also h32 it's good to see someone actually wishing ALB luck, who knows, maybe he'll play well.
