Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Wright Out of Burnley Trip
Monday, 28th Nov 2011 17:33

Keeper Richard Wright is out of Town's match at Burnley tomorrow having picked up a knock, joining David Stockdale on the sidelines. Arran Lee-Barrett will come into the starting line-up with Cody Cropper on the bench.

Wright appears to have been one of a number of players manager Paul Jewell said had been suffering with a niggle in the wake of Saturday's home defeat to Reading, the former England man's third debut for the Blues.

The 34-year-old has had little luck with injuries in recent months with both his two appearances for former club Sheffield United last season cut short by a knee problem which required surgery in the summer.

Lee-Barrett will be making his first league appearance since April, although he did play in the Carling Cup defeat to Northampton earlier in the season.

Speaking earlier today, manager Paul Jewell said Lee-Barrett was understandably disappointed when overlooked in favour of Wright at the weekend: “I had a chat with him on Friday. He wasn’t happy about it and I didn’t expect him to he happy about it, but it’s up to Arran to get in to the team, as simple as that.

“He was disappointed. He hasn’t played a lot of football, neither has Richard, but I just felt that Richard has been outstanding in training, and that’s what I said to Arran.

“Arran’s obviously hugely disappointed but that’s my decision. I don’t pick a team on sentiment, I pick a team on what I see Monday to Friday or what I feel might be right and that’s what I felt was right on Saturday.”

With Stockdale still out with his shoulder injury, Lee-Barrett now has the chance to show his manager he was wrong not to look to him at the weekend.

Stockdale tweeted that he hopes to be back in action at Playford Road this week and sent a message of support to his latest understudy: "Hoping to do some more training this week, so back soon. Sure Arron will show his doubters wrong! Good luck ALB!"

Cropper, an 18-year-old US U20 international, was previously on the bench for the Northampton match in the Carling Cup but is yet to make his first team debut.

Meanwhile, Burnley have announced that there will be a minute's applause prior to tomorrow's game in tribute to Gary Speed.

Right guys, Do you support town or not????

It's time to get behind your team and yes it could be 5 out of 5 defeats??? Support your team proud, wear your shirt with pride. Football is a strange game and i tell you that a ALB may shock and have a good performance. A goalkeeper is only good as his defence.

Recently our defence has not been its best and its shown that and PJ knows it so if he is the right man for the job he will do his best to sort that out in Jan.

I remember in the late 80's when we had John duncan in charge and attendances of 10,000 to 12,000 that was the days of moaning.

So come on get out of it and start singing Paul Jewells big fat army. COYB

Can't help but feel that many of the comments on this site illustrate the difference between 'fans' and 'supporters'.

JAs0999..

Keanes 1st season in charge . NOV 21st Played 17 Position 23rd Pts 13 GD -11 Home crowd 19,636 (where is the 6,000 lost fans by Jewell ?)
Jewell is not worse by a long way ,its not his fault people get injured ,as it was not Keanes fault Norris was injured for so long his first season .
Give the man time as we have everyone else ,even Keane managed to slightly improve us given time from very poor to poor ,the last 2 games we have been 7 minutes from 6 points due to individual errors

Some right idiots on here again cue- 'kerryblue and Jas0999'.
Nothing could have been done about at least 2 of those goals on Saturday, possibly all 3, irrespective of who was in goal. We need a good defence and that is something we are lacking and have done for a long time. We don't have height in Edwards, Ingi or Cresswell and only Sonko and Delaney seem to be able to jump.
Yes Jas 5/5 defeats, 1 more and he will catch up with your man Keane who had 6/6 and broke many pi$$ poor records for ITFC! Plenty of patience for that loser and generally nasty bloke but none for PJ, strange?

I hope ALB doesn't read this or he will have a poor performance. Poor lad, give him a chance people!!! If he has a stinker then criticise. If the defence has a stinker and he concedes goals then criticise the defence, otherwise please don't pass judgement before it's due.
I know it's been a poor run, but we're never going to get anywhere with this type of negativety.
Get behind the team tonight and lets help them put an end to the recent rot!!!

I can confirm Richard Wright hasn't picked up a knock, but has decided not to participate tonight so he doesn't do his back in picking the ball out of his net all night.
