Cresswell Says Sorry For Burnley Mauling
Cresswell Says Sorry For Burnley Mauling
Friday, 2nd Dec 2011 12:52

Town star Aaron Cresswell has apologised to supporters for the midweek mauling at Burnley that caused under-fire boss Paul Jewell to let rip at his under-performing side.

Left-back Cresswell also agreed that Jewell’s after-match assessment — he labelled his players spineless, gutless and like a pub team — was 100 per cent fair.

The 21-year-old summer recruit from Tranmere said: “The gaffer was spot-on. We were like a pub team and it wasn’t acceptable. We were a shambles and we have got to get ourselves out of this sticky patch as soon as possible.

“We know we haven’t been at the races for the past few weeks but we must try to stay positive. We can’t all be down in the dumps.”

Cresswell turned his attention to Saturday’s home clash with Watford and admitted: “It is a massive game and one we must try to make sure we win.

“A win would be great because we need to start putting wins on the board, get out of the rut we find ourselves in and climb away from the bottom of the table.

“The manager has been positive in training since the game at Burnley and we need to take that into the game.

“We are still the same team who went to West Ham and won, and enjoyed a six-game unbeaten run. When I signed for Ipswich I never saw this coming but I don’t think anyone did.”

Meanwhile, Watford's former Town academy schoolboy keeper Scott Loach says he's looking forward to returning to Suffolk: "It was Ipswich where my goalkeeping education started and I'll always be grateful to the club for that.

"Working under people like Malcolm Webster and also Jim Hollman, I learnt such a lot about goalkeeping.

"I've always been an Ipswich supporter as it's the club I grew up with.

"Richard Wright was my hero at the time, I always looked up to him as a fellow keeper, but I enjoyed watching the likes of Alex Mathie, James Scowcroft and Matt Holland."

Cresswell is one of the few players who actually doesn't need to apologise to the fans as at least he gives 100% effort every time. We need to stop playing 4 central midfielders who get by-passed by quicker, younger opposition players.

I met Cresswell last month and he really is a good lad. He seemed genuine and passionate about Town.He said his girlfriend lives up north and she had only been to watch a couple of matches - losing each time. Very down to earth and definately not too big for his boots, like most players.

Well done Cressy.. You are the best signing made this season. Have always given 100+% every game.. Now all PJ has gotta do is... Find 10 more Cressy's for the other 10 positions... Keep up the good work Aaron. If every other player put in the workrate you do (Sonks accepted) we'd b in top 2. Keep your chin up lad n give the rest of the team some grief.

alfromcol :- Totally agree. Maybe after their public media blasting, they don't fancy coming on here and getting lambasted again. Would you ? Agree your sentiments, but although hard to, we do have to get behind them. I don't think banners and booing will produce the kind of performance we all want.

Cornardblue.... I hope you are right, but unbeaten runs have a funny knack of coming to an end. And when they do it is often against sides least expected to do it. I have a funny feeling..........
