Ingimarsson Leaves Town
Ingimarsson Leaves Town

Blues boss Paul Jewell has revealed that Icelandic defender Ívar Ingimarsson's contract has been terminated by mutual consent. The 34-year-old was one of the centre-halves heavily criticised after Monday's 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Jewell said: “We’ve terminated Ívar’s contract, we’ve come to an agreement with him and his agent, that was agreed early in the week.

“It just hasn’t worked out, for him or for us. He’s been a terrific professional, but sometimes it just doesn’t happen. I think Ívar accepts that and we accept that.

“I rang his agent and said ‘it’s not working out’. He’s been a terrific player, a terrific professional and is a proud man, so he doesn’t want to hang around if he’s not going to be involved."

The Blues manager says the summer free transfer from Reading, who made six starts and two sub appearances for Town, never really established himself at Portman Road: “From day one it’s been start-stop for him, so I thought it was better for him to cut ties.

"The owner’s come to an agreement with his agent about the rest of his contract.”

Aside from Ingimarsson’s exit, Jewell says there have been no new developments on transfers either in or out.

Why did we sign him? Wasn't PJ aware of his ability ( or lack of it)

He can go away and work at the great questions of life.

Such as how the match day program listed him as 6 foot tall.

Another player paid off. Ingimarsson has been dreadful recently, which is strange as he looked good in pre-season. Getting decent centre backs on free transfers is tough, there are not many Jason De Vos's around. I think we will have to spend some money to bring in two quality centre backs, and a right back too, and a goalkeeper...oh dear, we are in a mess.

Poor old Ivar, yes he wasn't great for us but having been a Reading legend deserved a bit more dignity than this.

This is 100% PJ's fault. Terrible signing by a terrible manager. Let's hope PJ will be fined by the club for gross incompetence to part pay Ingi off.

7 Janauary - PJ has known for months that the loanees will return to their parent clubs and that the defence is shambolic - so why no progress on new signings? Let's hope it's because ME is close to announcing Jewells departure. Abysmal manager. Shocking.

oh and let's not forget PJ offered Healy a new contract in the Summer - before falling out with him and releasing him. How much has PJ cost us with these poor decisions? £100K?

JEWELL Himself should square up these mutual contracts, he then might learn a thing or two, and be more careful spending other peoples money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is because we are hugely over-burdened with defenders.

Maybe some others might like to have their contracts terminated??? Mr Jewell do you fancy joining the queue, I am sure a man of your calibre would be found a place at the front.

This has to be a positive move though, I said after the Forest game i never wanted to see him in a Town shirt again. Was a very poor signing though, if your going to sign ageing players, at least make sure they were top draw players at there peak.
