Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid
Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Ronan Murray could be allowed to join Swindon on a permanent basis if the Irish U21 international wants to make the switch to the Robins, with whom he has been on loan since November. The 20-year-old's spell is up after the weekend.

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio has already laid claim to Murray stating that he “belongs to us” but Jewell says that’s not the case as yet: “I have to tell Paolo that he’s our player! I think they’ve made an offer. Their chief executive [Jeremy Wray] has put something to Simon Clegg, but I haven’t really looked at it yet.

“I’m really pleased for Ronan that he’s gone out and is playing football. He’s a great lad, he’s had limited opportunities here and if he wants to go to Swindon and we can do something to make it happen, we’ll give Paolo his wish.”

Jewell also revealed that Jaime Peters was close to a loan switch to SPL side St Johnstone until red tape held up his move: “I spoke to Steve Lomas at St Johnstone but he’s got that three-club cross-border thing — he was at Bournemouth and he played for us against Northampton. That means he can’t go abroad to play for another club and Scotland is a move across a border.”

The Blues boss confirmed that the Canadian international will be allowed to move on to other Football League clubs on loan.

We have got to protect our club from the un-thinkable. Time to show how we feel we cannot go on like this.

Once again, the comments section is plagued by overly emotional people, giving their opinion on somebody they've never seen play.

Get somebody that will never make the first team, off the wage bill and put the funds towards a couple of centre halves and a right back please.

Good management

After 50 years of watching / supporting this Club - this is it for me.
This is typical of this Clown of a Manager's attitude to youngsters, and building for the future ?? - had enough now, can't take what has happened / happening to our once great Club anymore. Good Luck and Goodbye. I won't miss this garbage that was once a great family Club.

Keane did give several kids their debuts, that's true. BUT he also ruined the confidence of our best passer in the team at the time (Garvan) and sold Rhodes, so he was hardly an angel!

Doesn't hide the fact we need to allow our own youth to be given a fair crack though!

best news i've heard all season !! (tongue in cheek my friend)

we both share the same frustration when it comes to the youth team, and their (supposedly) transition into the first team

People seem to forget that Ronan has a say in this. Maybe he wants to go to Swindon? He"s free to do what he wants in a few months, so why not let him go? I would much prefer that he stays, but such is life.

How many minutes has Ronan had in a Jewell team ? How many minutes has Jaime played for him ? Yet they can be dismissed without a thought while Ellingto, Murphy et al can play for hours without showing any promise. This manager will not take any risks with "youngerr" players(< 27), preferring the "proven" player, except the proof his automatically selected players provided was years ago when Jewell was actually in tune with football, and their ability and his awareness have long since expired.

Here we go, Jordan Rhodes all over again!

It's as simple as this: Ellington or Murray on the bench.
Why would you sell a promising youngster who's scoring goals in a lower division and keep Ellington on the bench without giving Murray a shot!?

It beggars belief! If we do sell him, I am f**kin' done with this club and will start calling for the board and all of its management!!!

Hardly seen Murray play, as he has never really had a sniff of first team football, but surely we should keep him on the books. Season long loan has got to be the answer. Mind you, with Clegg on board we'll probably accept anything that's on the table and it'll probably bite us on the a@@e too, always does.

Keaneish......... I have to agree with you mate.

I am sick to death with Jewell having loanees in crucial places, selling / releasing players when there is no back up and not giving any of the youngsters a look in. We need to get the spine of the team sorted and stick with it.

The GK situation is ludicrous.....whilst I don't rate ALB, I think he has been treated horrendously by Jewell - a permanent keeper should have been in place at the start of the season. RB has never been looked at since Jewell arrived, the CB situation is probably the worst I can remember in 40 years of supporting the team. MF which probably wasn't so much of a worry at the start of the season, is now extremely worrying as the best scoring midfielder and one of the better players has finished his loan, 2 experienced midfielders are injured / ill. Up front, unfortunately, Chops, with his problems is not contributing as much as required.

If we were in this situation with a team of youngsters, then I would be able to take the occassional heavy defeat or bad performance, but when the team is generally made up of loanees (with no real passion about ITFC) or older players who will be retired in a year or 2, then I really feel that the situation is as dire as I can remember..........I don't even think the John Duncan era was so bad.

Regarding Murray.....no mention of a fee yet. Personally I feel we should keep him and play him.........I imagine the fee would only be a few hundred thousand......why sell him and buy another waste of space for a couple of million and on crazy wages?

Like you say Keaneish, there is only so much a loyal fan can take. I will always love and support the club, but it really feels like the piss is being completely taken out of all of us at the moment. Jewell's witty comments are fine and amusing after the odd defeat / bad performance......but after the run we have had I think he needs to think long and hard about what message he has for the fans.

Maybe it is time for ME to make himself known to the fans........Clegg is a muppet who only seems to have alienated everyone (except ME and Jewell).

I hate this changing of managers every 1, 2, or 3 seasons. Whilst I honestly wish that we win on Saturday, climb the table, get a balanced team of (non loanee) players and prepare ourselves for a serious promotion push next season,
I having a sinking feeling in my heart that unless Jewell goes soon the next few months will be some of the darkest we have ever known.

On the other hand, if you were Murray, who would you rather play for? A manager who's love and passion for the game has never been disputed in a team that is playing good football and probably on the way up or us...........it is so terribly sad that it has got to this situation.

That's all we need! Letting go of young players with potential when we have no back ups. Would be nice to see us after good young championship proven players for a change

Ive always rated Murray, quite annoyed that we're selling our young players without even trying them at this level first, hes twice the player fatty Ellington is!

jas0999 added 20:29 - Jan 13
It would seem we are excellent at selling players permanently - not very good at signing them. Clegg is to blame - as is PJ for not being able to attract players - mainly because he is a very poor manager. Even players and their agents expect PJ to be sacked - so why hasn't he been?

Murray is miles better than most of PJ's signings! PJ OUT

I can understand letting him go IF we had a strong squad and were winning matches and near the top of the league. But we aren't and RM brings a youthful exiting pace to the side. How can anyone believe that on present form Ellington gets the nod over RM (and others).

The same goes for S O'C another young talent being let go.

Where is the future??
