Town Bid Rebuffed Wednesday, 18th Jan 2012 18:28
Sky Sports are now reporting that it's Town who have had a double bid for Joel Ward and Jason Pearce (left) turned down by Portsmouth. Earlier, the satellite broadcaster was erroneously reporting that Watford were the club involved.
Given Portsmouth's current off-field issues, the Blues are likely to have gone in relatively low with their initial bid, perhaps around £1 million. They may now look to increase their offer but probably not by any huge amount at this stage.
Portsmouth’s current situation is complicated with their parent company Convers Sports Initiatives in administration, but with Sicilian-American businessman Joseph Cala set to complete a takeover, perhaps before the end of this week.
With the change of ownership so close, it appears unlikely that Pompey would sell players at this stage.
However, Cala has already stated his intention to cut the wage bill once his takeover is complete, which may suggest that the Hampshire club may ultimately be willing to accept some offers, although Ward and Pearce are unlikely to be amongst the higher earners.
Yesterday, TWTD broke the news that the Blues had made offers for the Pompey pair.

alfromcol Yes times have changed, However can yo tell me what's changed now????? Town is facing 3rd tier football, this was last experienced in the 60's and we are starting to have a club going nowhere when we have had lots of promise. We all know that this club should be in the premier league but we are far from that. We need stability and some people in charge who wants to bring this club where it belongs. If i ask every fan out there who has been supporting this club for many years, I would ask them this same question??? Where is this club going????? and they would say to ruin. Just get players in to this club that has respect and who has fans that are proud??? I am proud to be part of Ipswich Town FC i just want members of this club to be the same.

I see alot of people stating that town are on the road to ruin and that we are in crisis. I'd say take the blinkers off and look around the game, we are not the only ones and far from the worst ones, Crikey we think we have it bad? Look at darlo!! The game has changed so much that I believe we as a club will never compete for major honours again in my lifetime, regardless of whom is in charge, man utd to their credit under sir Alex were the last team to produce a successful side through nurturing youth, but even they could only sustain success by throwing Money at it in the end! We had sound local backing under the cobbolds and sheepshanks but the game changed during the latters tenure, unfortunately only big citys will attract fashionable investment from Dubai and Moscow, we were fortunate to get Evans on board in my opinion, without his investment I fear we would have collapsed as a team along with the local industry. We hoped Marcus' millions would have bought success but as it happens, it's just keeping us afloat.

The cynic in me says the management have taken flak from the fans for not trying to sign some younger players so as an act of appeasement a few low bids are thrown around for such players in the knowledge that in all likelihood they won't be accepted. As a result no such players are brought in and the management then, as originally planned, sign an over the hill journeyman or two instead just before the transfer window shuts and say 'well we tried to get the younger players fans but we couldn't make it happen but stick with us because next time we'll get it right, honest we will.' Time to get off the grassy knoll and take my conspiracy theory medication again'

keeping us afloat instead of going under should not be underestimated. we should be grateful and count our blessings. lets not forget if we stay up this season which is more likely than not, that we have a fresh go next season and be in a more envious position than most clubs in the division. some clubs may be higher up the table but have little chance of improving themselves whereas we do thanks to marcus.

Captaincrunch -- I totally agree and that's how my point should have come across in my closing statements.

Any chance of us actually targeting a defender and getting one in - by Saturday? 'Cos we sure as hell will be found wanting once again if not !

Two hurdles to make a signing 1) Get the club to agree to sell - offer enough and they will 2) The player has to agree - who in his right mind would want to join a club with Evans, Clegg or Jewell involved?

would love for these 2 to happen, both good players and for the future for the first time in a long time(with the exception of cresswell)!!! can't see the powell deal happening though, seen him a couple of times and he's clearly talented, despite being my age. wouldn't be surprised if we miss out on the 3 bids though and end up getting danny murphy!!

Patience folks. I am sure lots of work is going on behind the scenes to strengthen the squad. Still a couple of weeks of the transfer window to go.

Did any of us really expect any of our bids to be accepted first time? No, Part of why we are all so fed up with the rumour, heresay and speculation is because it is just that. Personally I would prefer to know nothing and be told when the new guy arrives. But that is not the nature of things now and not for the better me thinks.

Mid takeover, local lads, one has only just signed, not high earners... Why does anyone think this bid will be successful!? I'm failing to see our strategy here unless we offer money them and Ponpey can't refuse!
WorcesterBlue added 08:00 - Jan 19
This is just a smoke screen for the real negotiations going on behind the scenes. Mark my words there's no way we'd conduct our plans as openly as this if we wanted success. Plus PJ and Clegg know it just irritates the fans to have our repeated targets turn us down. No - there's genius at work here...........

To all the usual doom and gloom merchants moaning about the club as normal ,how many other championship clubs a placing bids for players in the millions ? Deals take time and after saturday we dont have a game until the transfer window shuts ,players like Andrews and Collins will then know where their future lies ,St Ledger will have to sign or spend the rest of the season on the bench at Leicester with the Euros coming up . Pompey are in admin and will have to accept a certain minimum bid which Evans will know ,why should we pay over the odds nobody did to us when we went into admin . Crewe are the same they may want £5million but have to accept offers ,deal more likely £2.5 to £3

Can't see how we can get these two. Why on earth would they come? So far----2 outfielders gone and no new outfield recruits. Hope we don't sign Djordic---the poor mans Tamas Priskin. Looks like Leeds will sign Ryan Shotton, good signing for them if they manage to get him. REAL insider news is that Oli Johnson is at PR today. Don't know how much he would cost but played reasonably well for Norwich a couple of seasons back and is still young.
