New Kits Every Year
New Kits Every Year
Tuesday, 31st Jan 2012 08:31

Town have announced that they will change both their home and away kit every season from this summer. The Blues say they were the only club in the top two divisions to change both their strips biennially prior to making the change.

Town's retail manager Lee Hyde told the club site: "It seems that most clubs have been working with single-year rotation on their shirts for several years now.

"We are one of the last remaining clubs not following this strategy but we feel that we now have to fall in line with the rest of football in this country.

"To keep the costs of the shirts competitive, we have to meet the minimum order requirements which the one-year rotation will also allow us to do."

Hyde says Town's two new kits will be available for pre-order from May: "We have been working closely with Mitre, our kit manufacturers, to produce a modern, striking look for next season and we're confident the new look will go down well with the supporters."

Can we have a solid blue shirt and socks and white shorts (HOME) and a orange and black away kit like we used to...or even my favourite red and black a la AC Milan away kit of 1994? Oh and get rid of the three stars on it...rubbish.

You can then change it every year but it will stay the same except for the sponsor logo as we drop down the divisions...so starting with ME and ending with Pukka Pies.

I look at clubs like norwich or newcastle and when they play the stands r full of yellow or black and white but at PR this is not the case and this is gonna kill off those remaining shirts!ps wheres these signings the clock is tickin big time!!

Of course, you don't have to buy one. It is not compulsory to wear a replica shirt at matches.

I doesnt make much odds to me, as I tend to buy the previous season shirt in the sale for a tenner to wear for 5 a side. Hasnt been a decent shirt since Umbro made them.

I do think its unfair on kids who will want to be upto date.

Yep, another nail in the coffin I'm afraid, another "own goal" by supposed "shrewd" businessmen (sort of the same types that gave us the great economic crash of 08?).
I stopped buying the shirts around 3 seasons ago. Poor quality, high prices & all for what?

I bought a "retro" shirt in blue & white with short sleeves (aka Brazil, Mariner et al) for £19 in the shop sale and have worn that since.........

you know it makes sense!!

Those that buy a new shirt every year must have money to burn.

Just don't buy the replica kit. The kits should change only every other year and be rotated between home and away. There should be no third kit - it is rerlatively easy to find a colour for an away that won't clash with any other club.
Stop ripping off the fans. Don't buy kit, don't buy Sky. Retaliate with your wallets

I've checked and noticed that no other club in the top two tiers of English football has Paul Jewell as manager or Simon Clegg as Chief Exec.

Can we please fall in line by getting rid

I have been away for the last two years but return to England on Saturday. I recently asked my dad to buy me the current home shirt in the sale the club just had so I had it ready for next season. I think I will be getting a refund on that now! And I wont be leaving the shop until I have my money back!

Fine BUT bring the cost of them down!!..the best part of £45 every season is taking the mickey.

Let's hope the new home kit is slightly more imaginative than the current one (which is just a mish mash of the last 2 home kits)..I do love our black away shirt though & will miss that.

Would prefer it if they give us a choice/vote.

Good advice from StiffShorts. plenty of retro shirts available. Less money, probably better quality and won't 'expire'.
Quite like the 1962 Champions replica on Toffs.com for 33 quid...

Welcome to the modern age of commercialism as someone who understands business it seems the logical thing to do, increase kit merchandise sales by changing every year, we must not forget that a rich businessman is charge! The other side of it is that it could well backfire as fans will either not be able to afford to change every year or will resist buying because they see the move as a greedy one so these things have to be considered but I personally think from a sales point of view it will work, hopefully the extra revenues raised are reinvested!

i always wear a wallaby strip so doesn't bother me

debenturedave added 10:41 - Jan 31
If they are only to be worn for one season they will be in the sale by the New Year , as this current seasons is, or even by Xmas, so most people will just wait for the sale ! Its strange how the training tops are a lot cheaper than the playing strips ! If they were alot cheaper more people would buy them !

"To keep prices competitive..."

WTF - we are not competing with anyone - are any other clubs selling our shirts? We can't shop around for the best deal, and we're not exactly going to change allegiance due to the price of shirts!

Agree that this is a massive scam - there is no need for us to "fall into line"

stupid idea...i despise the fact that most prem teams do it...its just a way to scam hard working and loyal fans..

theres is far too much money floating around in football these days it is getting ridiculous...there needs to be a cap put on players wages and a cap on ticket pricing
